Volkswagen India’s volume sellers – the Taigun and the Virtus – have gained a unique derivative. It’s called Sound Edition and builds upon the Topline trim of both models. Buyers can choose between two engine-transmission combinations – petrol-MT and petrol-AT. Here’s how the prices stack up:
Volkswagen Taigun Sound Edition
• 1.0 TSI with 6-speed MT: INR 16.33 Lakh
• 1.0 TSI with 6-speed AT: INR 17.90 Lakh
Volkswagen Virtus Sound Edition
• 1.0 TSI with 6-speed MT: INR 15.52 Lakh
• 1.0 TSI with 6-speed AT: INR 16.77 Lakh
If you compare those prices with the Topline derivatives (with new features), the Sound Edition demands a premium of INR 30,000. For that extra, buyers will get a sub-woofer and amplifier (taken from the GT Plus trim) for a richer music-listening experience. Moreover, the Sound Edition features ‘Sound’ badging on the front tweeters, the B-Pillar (outdoors), and equaliser graphics on the C-Pillar. New features, including electric front seats, puddle lamps and footwell illumination, are also available. Those are also part of the package in the standard Topline derivatives.
The Sound Edition derivatives of the Taigun and Virtus are available in four colours – Lava Blue, Carbon Steel Grey, Wild Cherry Red and Rising Blue. For the compact SUV, buyers can also opt for a dual-tone finish, clubbing the body colour with a white roof and white ORVM caps.
As you’d expect, there are no mechanical changes to report. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine pumps out 113hp/178Nm in both cars. You can have it mated with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Based on the model and the variant chosen, the claimed mileage ranges from 18.15kmpl to 20.08kmpl.
Apart from the Sound Edition, Volkswagen India also has the GT Edge Limited Collection of Taigun and Virtus. Another option for Taigun buyers is the recently introduced GT Edge Trail Edition.
