Skoda Unveils The Enyaq RS iV

The pure-electric SUV can travel more than 500km before running out of juice.

What you see here is Skoda’s second all-electric RS model. It’s called the Enyaq RS iV, and you could think of it as a more practical but slightly less frugal version of its stablemate – the Enyaq Coupe RS iV. Both share the same hardware, including the dual-motor setup, the battery and the all-wheel-drive setup. But because the newcomer is a bit less aerodynamic, its 0.265 coefficient of drag isn’t as impressive as its more slippery sibling.

The Enyaq RS iV offers the same 295hp/460Nm, which means it can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 6.5 seconds and clock 180kmph before running into the electronic speed nannies. The power and torque figures make the electric SUV the joint top-spot occupier for the most powerful model in Skoda’s present-day portfolio. But where the Coupe version can travel up to 545km on a single charge, the zero-emissions SUV can manage just over 500km.

Coupled with the powerplant is an 82kWh battery pack, which can be replenished using AC and DC electricity feeds. Charging times? Well, Skoda says that if plugged into a 135kW DC charger (that’s the maximum support), the Enyaq RS iV can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 36 minutes.

Enough numbers? Perhaps there’s room for a few more. The Enyaq RS iV offers 15 litres more in the luggage area than the Coupe. And the 585-litre capacity shoots up to 1,710 litres by folding away the rear seats. As standard, the electric SUV rides on 20-inch rims. Alternatively, one could go an inch bigger. Further accentuating the sporty character is the Mamba Green colour, which is exclusive to RS models. And, Skoda equips the Enyaq RS iV with sports suspension by default, meaning a drop in height by 15mm and 10mm at the front and rear axles, respectively.

Inside the cabin, Skoda has used carbon-look decorative trim on the dashboard and the door panels, coupled with aluminium design pedal covers and heated sports seats. The all-black theme comes is also accompanied by bright green accents, found even on the RS logos in the integrated headrests. And as far as the lists of features and options are concerned, they are identical to that of the Enyaq Coupe RS iV.

Skoda will put the Enyaq RS iV on sale in Europe early next year. And the all-electric SUV will only make the brand’s all-electric range even more desirable. Do you agree?
