Skoda debuts the Vision 7S Concept with a new corporate logo

The Vision 7S showcases the new design language for the brand

As the auto industry switches to electrification, car brands are consciously embracing the same with new identities. Several firms like Aston Martin, Bugatti, and VW have adopted more digital-friendly images of themselves via new simplistic 2D logos. The latest entrant to join the bandwagon is Czech carmaker Skoda.

For the first time in 30 years, Skoda pushes a major rebranding initiative. Besides the new digital-friendly typographic logo, Skoda vows to endorse a new design language called Modern Solid for its upcoming crop of cars. And to preview the vision behind this new cosmetic theme along with its Modern Solid new logo, Skoda unveils the new Vision 7S Concept EV.

“With the VISION 7S, we are offering a concrete view of a completely new ŠKODA model that will expand our product portfolio and our customer base. We are thus significantly accelerating our eMobility offensive – we are going to launch three new pure electric models by 2026,” says Klaus Zellmer, chairman of the ŠKODA board of directors.

The design introduced on the Vision 7S will be shared among the impending car launches from the brand. Hence, a new, flatter, wider Tech-Deck face with a sensor-hiding glass panel replaces the traditional grille and will most likely be the new family face for the brand. Extensive application of aerodynamics can be found along the new alloy wheel design and the air inlets right above the side skirts. Vertical openings on the nose are positioned for effectively cooling the radiator and the brakes. The T-shaped headlights and rear lights are also a new design element.

As the Vision 7S name would suggest, this concept EV can seat seven with a three-row interior. The cabin sees the conventional EV flat-floor setup for a more leisurely experience. The dashboard is dominated by a 14.6-inch touchscreen, the largest ever installed in a ŠKODA, with brand-new graphics and software. The large screen can be positioned in two settings – the regular vertical setup for Drive Mode and a horizontal setup for Relax mode. The latter pushes the dashboard further from the occupants to allow a better view for watching movies and TV shows on the large screen, while the vehicle is parked or being charged. Rotary dials and buttons can be found beneath the large screen for climate control and infotainment settings.

Being a Skoda, the Vision 7S boasts clever features such as magnets to hold phones across all three rows. The center console sees an integrated child seat that extends to the second row, so rear passengers always have a view of the child. The door panels incorporate interactive surfaces with coloured lights shining through the fabric. A blue or red light visualises the air conditioning temperature change. You can even write on the fabric with your finger – to leave short notes or for children to create little drawings.

Sustainability is in the air, and the Skoda Vision 7S is certainly breathing it. Interior panels such as the floor and the boot are made entirely of recycled-tyre veneer, while the fabric used between the seats and the dashboard is made from recycled polyester yarns.

While Skoda remains mum on the powertrain specifications, it has declared an 89kWh battery doing fuel duties on the Vision 7S. This allows Skoda to claim a 600km range, with the car supporting fast charging speeds of up to 200kW.

The Vision 7S conforms as one of the three all-electric vehicle launches planned by Skoda by 2026. The other two EV models will comprise a compact SUV and a small car. Until then, Skoda will be strengthening its existing ICE portfolio by launching a new generation of Superb and Kodiaq models in the second half of next year, followed by a modernised Octavia in 2024.
