Royal Enfield is having a busy end of the year with many new models being launched, left, right and centre. Moments after launching the Royal Enfield Goan Classic 350 – the motorcycle marque has gone ahead and unveiled a new and better Royal Enfield Scram 440 scrambler- replacing the outgoing Scram 411.
The Royal Enfield Scram 440 gets an upgraded motor – that now produces 25.6 hp @ 6500 rpm and 34Nm of torque @ 4000 rpm – an increase from the previous, 24 hp @ 6250 rpm and 33 Nm of torque @ 4250 rpm – Royal Enfield managed to extract these number by increasing the bore of the existing 411cc motor and effectively amping up the displacement of the motor to 443c. To better extract the potential of the upgraded engine – The Scram 440 also gets a new gearbox that goes up to 6 cogs – one more than the outgoing Scram 411, which should aid in sustaining decent speed speed on the highway, while being considerate on the engine.
The upgrades to the new Scram 440 are not just limited to the engine—Royan Enfield has equipped the new Scram 440 with an LED headlight, switchable ABS, and revised front brakes for improved stopping prowess. The Scram 440’s frame is the same as the Scram 411’s Half Duplex split cradle frame, albeit it has been strengthened in certain areas to improve overall rigidity, and it now also offers the option to add a top box.
Royal Enfield offers other subtle mechanical improvements that enhance the motorcycle’s overall rideability, such as a new pull-type clutch that reduces the effort required to engage the clutch and a refined SOHC valve train to improve NVH levels from the engine.
The New Royal Enfield Scram 440 comes in two different variants – The Train and Force – The Trail variant comes with conventional spoke wheels with tube tyres and the Force variant gets tubeless tyres with alloy wheels. Both variant gets the option to choose from five different shades of colours – Force Teal, Force Grey, Force Blue, Force Green and Blue. The Scram 440 is set to be launched next year in January.
