RM Sotheby’s lists the 32-vehicle Bavarian Legends Collection for sale

The most desirable BMWs get listed for sale

Sheer driving pleasure – If you yearn for this, your next car should be an older BMW. And auction house RM Sotheby’s will make the old BMW hunt easier for individuals as it lists a Bavarian Legends Collection for sale.

The upcoming Munich auction on 26 November will see RM Sotheby’s offer a 32-unit contingent comprising cars and bikes from the Bavarian marque. The Bavarian Legends Collection contains cars spanning nearly all eras of BMW, along with certain models from sister firms MINI and Rolls-Royce on sale. Each available lot is offered without reserve and forms the centrepiece of the Munich auction.

The highlight lots include a 1958 BMW 507 Roadster Series II, one of just 252 examples produced. A model coveted highly by collectors, the 507 was BMW’s flagship in the 50s, and the unit on sale comes finished in cream exteriors over red leather interiors. Another special lot on sale is a 1980 BMW M1 built in a unique colour combination of grey over a brown interior for BMW Motorsport chief Jochen Neerpasch. The BMW M’s head honcho has retained the car in impeccable condition while showcasing it at the world-famous Concours lawns of the 2013 Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance.

A 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL ‘Batmobile’ is the period-performance-pinnacle of BMW’s M division cars, listed to go under the hammer. Joining the classic car is a series of modern M cars spanning multiple generations. The most desirable ones comprise an E30-generation 1989 BMW M3, an E36-generation 1997 BMW M3 and an E46-generation 2003 BMW M3 CSL, among others. Also on offer is a pre-production 1990 BMW 850 CSi that was first owned by BMW for testing purposes and later by BMW racing driver and Ayrton Senna’s teammate, Johnny Cecotto.

If low-mile, as-good-as-new BMWs are what you’re after, a ‘99 BMW Z8 with a mere 105kms on the clock and no road registration has been put up for sale. Straying away from the traditional BMWs will leave the auctioneers with options such as a ‘66 Austin Mini Cooper S Mk I, very much the original Mini and a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Owen Drophead Sedanca Coupé with Coachwork by Gurney Nutting, which is believed to be one of just 12 produced.

The Bavarian Legends Collection caters to a broad palette for owners with varied pockets. Prices for the lots on offer range between €20,000 to €2,000,000. Click here to view the lots on sale at RM Sotheby’s Munich auctions.
