Raketa unveils a new fighter jet inspired pilots watch

The Raketa Su is inspired by the Sukhoi Design Bureau’s SU-57 fighter jet.

Raketa Watch Factory (“Raketa”) has introduced the Raketa SU. It has been designed in collaboration with Russia’s Sukhoi Design Bureau – the designers and manufacturers of the SU-57,a cutting-edge 5th-generation supermanoeuvrable fighter jet.” Saint-Petersburg based Raketa is among the oldest watch factories in the world.

“The design of this model is inspired by the Su-57, a cutting-edge 5th-generation supermanoeuvrable fighter jet. The dark colour palette of the watch is not a mere aesthetic choice; it mirrors the advanced technologies and stealth features that are the hallmark of this aircraft. Much like the aircraft’s fuselage, materials, and special coating render the jet nearly invisible to radars, the convex glossy aircraft’s silhouette printed on the matte black dial appears to dissolve into the shadows.”

Key Features

Functions and Operation

Central hours, minutes, and seconds. Screw-in crown at 3 o’clock for winding and time setting.

Dial

Image: The dial view a fighter pilot (or any pilot) needs in the cockpit. The black PVD-coated case, dial elements, and luminescent coating are reminiscent of the SU-57’s digital cockpit. Seen here on the silicone strap (same as header image).

Black dial. Sharp contrast black and white hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova. Black seconds hands. The Arabic numerals, hour-markers, and outer hour and minute scale are coated with Super-LumiNova.

Case

Image: Non-lume view. Seen here on the genuine leather strap.

Black PVD-coated stainless steel case. Diameter: 42 mm. Thickness: 13.65 mm. Lug-to-lug distance: 49.13 mm. Dial side features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Caseback features a sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 20 bar or 200 metres.

The watch comes with to straps: a silicone strap and a genuine leather strap. Straps are interchangeable vial quick-release pins.

Movement

Image: The prints on the automatic winding rotor are inspired by the SU-57’s livery. Movement has an average rate of -10 / +20 seconds per day. Not exactly chronometric.

Powered by in-house calibre 2615, a mechanical automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, and seconds. Jewels: 24. Frequency: 18,000 vph or 2.5 Hz. Power reserve: 40 hours. Movement features a bidirectional automatic winding rotor. A mechanism stops the automatic winding unit if you choose to manually-wind the movement.

Our Thoughts

Image: View from the SU-57 cockpit. An excellent addition in a pilots watch collection, one that includes Breitling, Bremont, IWC Schaffhausen, among others.

The Raketa Su is a simple pilots watch with no “bells and whistles” – just as it should be. Its biggest appeal is the SU-57 fighter jet inspiration. It is perfect for collectors who love pilots watches and are seeking to add something offbeat to complement their collections.

Additional Details

Image: “This model comes with a special metal case with two locks and safety ribbons indicating ‘Remove Before Flight’. This echoes pre-flight procedures: just as the pilot must remove red tags prior to take off, the watch owner needs to perform a similar ritual before accessing the watch and wearing it. The set includes an extra genuine leather strap, and a 1:100 scale metal model of the Sukhoi Su-57 fighter.”
