Porsche unveils sporty GTS trim for Cayenne SUV with more power

It gets air suspension as standard with bits borrowed from Turbo GT as well

Porsche’s GTS trim level is famed for marrying an extra dose of dynamism with long-distance capability attributes into one mid-spec trim. And now, Porsche has launched this sweet-spot GTS trim on its latest Cayenne SUV and Coupe models that’s aimed to offer improved on-road capability.

How Porsche has managed to procure enhanced on-road dynamics is by the fitment of air suspension as standard along with a 10mm lowered ride height and a GTS-specific chassis. It further borrows the front axle pivot bearings from the top-spec Turbo GT iteration for more direct steering response. Active roll stabilisation is also on offer, as an optional extra.

The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 is devoid of any electrification. And yet, Porsche has ensured the GTS’ power output receives a 40hp and 40Nm torque bump to boast performance figures of 493hp and 660Nm torques. Even the 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission has been tweaked to lay down shorter response and shift times in Sport and Sport Plus modes. All this allows a 0-100kph sprint time of 4.4 seconds and a 275 kph top speed for a family SUV.

Porsche has inculcated cosmetic tweaks to lend a unique look to the Cayenne GTS. Black ‘GTS’ lettering on the sides and rear of the car, a special front end with bigger cooling air intakes, dark-tinted headlights and tail lights, and red brake callipers are distinct design attributes that separate the GTS trim from the rest. Distinguishing elements include the sports exhaust system tailpipes, which previously came in Black, which are now finished in a dark bronze tone and 21-inch RS Spyder-design wheels get finished in anthracite grey.

Customers can further have up to 25kilos reduced from their Cayenne GTS by opting for one of three different lightweight sports packages. A lightweight roof and a carbon rear diffuser are some lightweight elements one can choose to incorporate to have reduced weight on their Cayenne GTS.
