Porsche Unleashes The New Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid

Besides packing more power, the revised PHEV has a larger battery and faster charger.

What you see here is the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid. In the SUV’s history, the latest derivative is the most powerful of all time. As in the pre-facelift reign, the plug-in hybrid recipe is available in SUV and Coupe forms. Besides packing more power, the revised PHEV has a larger battery and faster charger.

The propulsion for the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid comes from the combination of a reworked 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 and an electric motor. The internal combustion engine produces 591hp, whereas the electric motor is good for 174hp. The total system output is rated at 730hp/950Nm, a noticeable increment over the predecessor. As a result, the refreshed Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid sprints to 100kmph from nothing in 3.7 seconds and clocks 295kmph flat out.

The electric motor is backed by a larger 25.9 kWh battery, offering an EAER City range of up to 82km. It can be replenished via the faster 11kW AC onboard charger, which will take less than 2.5 hours to complete its job.

As standard, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid models have adaptive air suspension with two-chamber and two-valve technology and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. The same list also includes a heated GT steering wheel, 18-way electrically adjustable sports seats and a mode switch for faster selection of driving mode. Those willing to spend a bit extra can pick additional stuff from the options list. That includes Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, rear-axle steering and 14-way adjustable leather comfort seats.

In terms of design, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid models build on the styling cues reserved for Turbo models. The standout bits are red brake callipers and two twin tailpipes in brushed stainless steel. Indoors, the aluminium inlays in the dashboard and Race-Tex roof lining further accentuate the sporty aura.

The choice of the GT Package is also available for the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid pair in markets where the Turbo GT variant is no longer on offer due to local regulations. That ropes in more sporty stuff, including a 10mm drop in ride height, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes, carbon side plates on the roof spoiler and centrally located outlets for the titanium exhaust system. The GT Package also ups the performance: the 0-100kmph sprint time at 3.6 seconds and the top speed at 305kmph.

In Germany, the starting price for the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid SUV and Coupe is EUR 176,324 and EUR 179,775, respectively. With the GT Package, the price shoots up to EUR 208,454.
