Porsche Donates Lamps; Celebrates The Spirit Of Diwali

The carmaker partnered with a not-for-profit organisation, Liter of Light.

Diwali, celebrated annually and known as the Festival of Lights, symbolises the victory of knowledge over ignorance, light over darkness, and good over evil. To celebrate the true spirit of Diwali, Porsche partnered with a not-for-profit organisation, Liter of Light, to donate solar lamps in rural homes.

A total of 1963 lamps, hand-made by previously unemployed women in Mumbai, were selected. They were painted in a shade closely matching the new Provence look of the all-new, all-electric Porsche Macan. But before they were packed for those living in homes without a reliable electricity source, the lamps came together to pay homage to the iconic Porsche 911, born in 1963.

The lamps were carefully laid out in the shape of the Porsche Crest at the Gateway of India in Mumbai. The help came from volunteers and visitors at the 26-metre-tall monument, while school students and members of the Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach were also present to assist. The result set a new Guinness World Record for the largest display of solar-powered lamps.

The lamps were then packed and transported to villages in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The lamps were donated there with assistance from community organisations, including the Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach.

Here’s what Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director at Porsche India, said in an official release:

Porsche India is honoured to partner with Liter of Light to create a truly meaningful impact this Diwali, celebrating the Festival of Lights by bringing solar-powered light to communities in need.

Manfred Braeunl, CEO of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, added:

We thank Liter of Light and our colleagues at Porsche India for bringing together this amazing project. The spectacular display at the Gateway of India has created amazing images that will be seen around the world. But the real lasting impact of this effort is that we have improved lives of people in a meaningful way.
