A Crew with a Purpose

Isaacman, who is leading the Polaris Dawn mission, is joined by a seasoned crew. Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Scott Poteet brings his expertise as the mission pilot. SpaceX’s Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon, both Lead Space Operations Engineers, round out the team, lending their technical knowledge and operational experience.

Beyond Exploration: Supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®

The mission extends beyond scientific discovery. The crew is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, a leading institution battling childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases. To support this cause, IWC Schaffhausen, a renowned luxury watchmaker, designed and donated four limited-edition Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Polaris Dawn” timepieces. These unique watches will be auctioned at Christie’s in New York City, with proceeds benefiting St. Jude’s lifesaving work.

The Polaris Dawn mission promises a historic five-day journey aboard the Dragon spacecraft. This ambitious endeavour will attempt to reach the highest Earth orbit ever achieved by a human crew. Additionally, the mission will witness the first commercial spacewalk, a significant milestone in the evolution of private space exploration. The crew will also research the impact of long-duration spaceflight on human health, information crucial for future missions to Mars and beyond. Another exciting aspect of the mission involves testing Starlink’s laser-based communication technology in space, paving the way for a more robust and efficient communication network.
