Piaget Dazzles at Art Dubai

From 1st to 3rd March 2024, Piaget will present its House of Gold exhibition at Art Dubai.

“From the 1st to the 3rd of March 2024, at the heart of Madinat Jumeirah, Piaget will renew its historic ties with the contemporary art fair Art Dubai.”

PIAGET

Piaget – founded by Georges-Edouard Piaget in 1874 in La Côte-aux-Fées, a municipality in the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, is a globally renown luxury watchmaker and jeweller. Since 1988, Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss based Richemont Group and is headquartered in Geneva.

Initially founded as a manufacturer of timepieces movements, the 20th century saw Piaget creating and marketing its own line of timepieces. As a watchmaker, Piaget is a pioneer in ultra-thin timepiece movements, both mechanical hand-wound and automatic. In addition, Piaget is a world-class jeweller. Their jewellery expertise comprises of design and craftsmanship, gem-cutting and setting, enameling, gold craftsmanship, as well as others. The combination of their watchmaking and jewellery heritage and expertise has resulted in iconic collections such as “Altiplano, Piaget Polo, Limelight Gala, Possession, Piaget Sunlight, Piaget Rose and Extremely Piaget.”

Piaget is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

ART DUBAI

Founded in 2007, Art Dubai is a leading international art fair, held in March each year in Dubai, UAE.

“Over the past 17 years, Art Dubai has cemented its role in being a major catalyst in the local, regional and international conversations on art from the Middle East and surrounding region (MENASA – Middle East, North Africa & South Asia), and putting art from these territories onto the global map.”

“As one of the world’s most international art fairs, Art Dubai has further expanded its commitment to cultivating a culture of discovery, offering exciting new global perspectives and broadening conversations about art beyond traditional western-led geographical scopes and narratives. The fair drives meaningful engagement with the rich cultural heritage and contemporary art practices of the region and extending to territories across Southeast and Central Asia, the African continent, and Latin America through presentations across its gallery sections.”

PIAGET at ART DUBAI

“Taking part in the 17th edition of Art Dubai in 2024, during Piaget’s grand celebration of its 150th anniversary, was an undeniable and natural choice for us.” Benjamin Comar, Piaget CEO.

“We are delighted to welcome Piaget to Art Dubai as our high jewellery and watch partner – an iconic brand that shares our vision for art, artistry, and excellence.”Benedetta Ghione, Art Dubai Executive Director.

The House of Gold Exhibition

Piaget will exhibit its icons of gold craftsmanship, “celebrating long-standing icons as well as their contemporary reinterpretations, all linked by a common thread: the wonders of goldwork.”  Visitors will be able to experience the world of Piaget – both past and present – “through an exceptional immersive experience.”

Piaget’s Mastery of Gold

Piaget’s mastery of goldwork – melting, mastering, carving, and engraving – is performed by their craftspeople from their ‘Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire’, who work in secrecy in their Geneva workshops. Their craftsmanship brings to life Piaget’s High Watchmaking and High Jewellery collections.

Piaget’s Iconic Signature Pieces

Iconic pieces of watchmaking and jewellery will be displayed.

“In one corner, a Swinging Sautoir necklace is crafted to give its wearer a new way of reading that time. Elsewhere, Limelight Gala watches are bestowed with the Maison’s couture charm, and cuffs are created by combining textured effects with the colours of ornamental stones.”

“The virtuosity at work in the watchmaking ateliers is just as remarkable, highlighting the art of making Piaget’s ultra-thin timepieces, from the very first versions to the Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin models recently released by the Manufacture.”

A Reinterpretation of an Icon

The recently launched Piaget Polo 79, a reinterpretation of a 1980’s iconic timepiece, will be present at the exhibition. The Polo 79 is “fully sculpted from the most precious of metals to form a rare piece of artistry, both a fine bracelet and a watch.”  Piaget is unveiling this timepiece at Art Dubai, leading up to its 150th anniversary celebrations just prior to Watches & Wonders, which will be held during late March – early April in Geneva.

Artistic Collaborations Unveiling at Art Dubai

Artists and celebrities have collaborated with Piaget in the past. They form an important part of the famous ‘Piaget Society’. Art Dubai will present two such creative collaborations.

First, a limited edition of Piaget’s Limelight Gala timepiece reinvented by designer Shamsa Alabbar. “The piece is a hypnotic reinterpretation of typography and Arabic graphic design conveyed through the sweeping curves of the iconic jewellery watch.”

Second, a creative collaboration with artist Razan Alazzouni, who has collaborated in a duet with Piaget in the past “to reinterpret the Possession jewellery collection.”  For this exhibition, she has taken inspiration from a version of the Limelight Gala, which is made of gold with a marquetry of ornamental stones.
