The current 2nd generation Jeep Compass is set to fade into the darkness with the new Compass set to begin production soon, in Melfi, Italy. The current model has been on sale since 2016 with 2017 being the first model year. The FCA Small Wide LWB 4×4 is being replaced with a new STLA Medium platform, meaning this new Compass is going to be all new.
The current Compass has been a sales success, especially when compared to the rest of the world (US home market excluded). Sales in Europe are hovering around fifty thousand units per year. The next generation Compass is seeking to capture even more sales by offering e-hybrid, e-hybrid plug-in, and a fully electric option for their plucky little off-roader.
All-wheel drive is set to be offered in some trims, but not all. The current model has everything from base trims to the Trailhawk and Limited. Numerous engines have been available globally from 1.3L to 2.4L and with plug-in and diesel variants. I am guessing the next gen e-hybrid plug-in and the fully electric models won’t be all-wheel drive, but we will know more soon once Jeep makes the full announcement!
Cheers!
