New Audi A5 e-hybrids Combine Dynamics, Efficiency, And Long Electric Range

Audi is now offering two plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models in two power levels for the A5 series for the first time

The new plug-in hybrid models for the A5 series offer customers even more flexibility and efficiency. The heart of the new A5 plug-in hybrids is the new high-voltage battery in the car’s rear. The latest generation of high-voltage batteries has approximately 45 percent more capacity. Improved regenerative braking performance contributes to an electric range of up to 110 kilometres. Audi introduced the technology of “e-hybrid” with immediate effect.

The new Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro and Audi A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro are available in two power levels: 295 bhp, which accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.1 seconds, and 362 bhp, which accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds. Both cars are powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine with 248 bhp and an electric motor with up to 140 bhp. All models can reach a top speed of 250 kmph.

Two operating modes are available: “EV” and “hybrid.” In EV mode, the PHEV models operate solely on electric power. When driving in hybrid mode, the hybrid charge management system maintains a specific charge level to provide sufficient electric power for later use, such as electric city driving. In addition to the automatic hybrid mode, the desired charge level can now be individually selected using a digital slider.

The PHEV models come with a high level of standard equipment. The sporty, higher-powered A5 e-hybrid quattro comes as standard with the S line exterior package, the Black Design package, and privacy glass, giving it a distinctive, dynamic appearance.

The base-engine A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro starts at around $67,500 in Germany. The new A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro begins at $69,000. The high-performance sedan starts at $76,600 with significantly improved standard equipment, while the high-performance A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro starts at $78,500.

The initial launch of the new e-hybrid models is scheduled for April 2025.
