MG Updates The Gloster For India
Besides new wheels, the three-row SUV also gains new features.
Those looking for a full-sized SUV under the INR 50 lakh mark might want to consider what Morris Garages (MG) has just launched – the 2022 Gloster. MG, however, is calling it the “Advanced Gloster”. In truth, the SUV gains minute changes outside and new feature additions inside the cabin. But before we get to the details, let’s look at the price list:
• Super 4X2 – INR 32.00 Lakh
• Sharp 4X2 – INR 36.88 Lakh
• Savvy 4X2 (7 Seater) / (6 Seater) – INR 38.45 Lakh
• Savvy 4X4 (7 Seater) / (6 Seater) – INR 40.78 Lakh
Okay. Time to look at what’s new. MG Motor India has given the Gloster new 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, which look funkier. Apart from that, the only addition is a new body colour option called Deep Golden. If you don’t fancy that, there are others to choose from – Agate Red, Metal Black, Warm White and Metal Ash.
It’s on the inside where the 2022 Gloster distances itself from the older version. The updated model now packs over 75 connected-car features, courtesy of MG’s updated i-Smart 2.0. Some of the new features it offers include live weather updates, ‘Hinglish’ voice commands, an app for Android-based watches and remote function for the music system, AC and even the ambient lighting via the i-Smart 2.0 mobile application. In addition, the list of safety and assistance systems has also been beefed up, with the SUV now offering Door Open Warning, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
The rest of the package remains unchanged, including the powertrain. So, the 2.0-litre diesel engine comes coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission. With one turbocharger in the equation, the Gloster has 161bhp/375Nm on tap, whereas, with two, the output increases to 215bhp/480Nm. As before, the option of 4×4 remains reserved for the twin-turbo powerplant.
In India, the MG Gloster rivals the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4 and the Jeep Meridian. In the same price range, you also have options such as the Skoda Kodiaq.
