Morris Garage unveils the MG7
The Chinese brand is now targeting the high end market
After a flock of SUVs that make up the majority of its line-up, MG is now moving up a gear with the MG7, a top-of-the-range sedan that will be the brand’s new flagship. The car adopts the codes of the segment from the beginning: a stocky and slender silhouette, a long bonnet and a sloping roofline. The headlights are pinched while the taillights form a luminous band. The whole is embellished with numerous ribs. The whole thing is not lacking in character.
The story is repeated on board with a cabin featuring blue bucket seats. The atmosphere is both sporty and original. The dashboard is characterized by its fluid lines and groups all its functions on two screens placed in a row. MG promises to have worked carefully on the quality of the finishes. This is indeed a crucial point since the MG7 will rival the Audi A5/A7 duo, no less!Under the bonnet, the MG7 is more consensual as two engines are currently on the programme.
A 1.5-litre petrol with 185 PS and 300 Nm of torque, coupled with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. A 2.0-litre unit developing 257 PS and 405 Nm of torque will also be available and will constitute the top of the range offer. Here, a 9-speed ZF automatic transmission will be used. In any case, the MG7 will be a front-wheel drive only.
Other powertrains could arrive later. The car will be marketed in China at the end of the year and will also be sold in the rest of Asia during 2023. No European release is planned for the moment. Pricing has not been announced but should be competitive compared to the market.
