MG launches the new RX-5 SUV in the Middle East

The new RX-5 benefits from a more powerful engine and dynamic styling inside out

SUVs and crossovers are all the craze now, and MG aims to build on the same by launching the new second-gen RX-5 SUV in the Middle East. The new MG RX-5 comes with improved styling, more technology and a host of trim levels for customers to choose from. MG introduces the RX-5 to cement its positioning in the top six Middle East carmaker listings.

MG claims the new RX-5 incorporates 22 new design elements and eight performance upgrades. The changes are evident upfront with the new wide three-dimensional grille flanked by crystal LED headlights on either side. The rear echoes the front with similar wraparound tail lights with the addition of a “Twin-Aero” rear spoiler, designed to enhance the car’s sporty appeal.

MG claims the cabin is brimmed with soft-touch materials. The dashboard integrates a floating 14.1-inch HD vertical touchscreen in the center console followed by a gear lever that ‘wouldn’t look out of place in a spaceship’, according to MG. The rest of the cabin layout looks conventional by modern standards, with a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster adding to the equipment on offer. The creature comfort list further expands into features such as a six-way electric driver seat with lumbar support, four-way electric passenger seats, a panoramic sunroof, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and GPS navigation, along with side and curtain airbags.

Driver assistance features like cruise control and a rearview camera are fitted as standard. Customers opting for the higher trim levels also benefit from a 360-degree camera. MG has also equipped eight safety systems, comprising ABS with EBD and TCS and BDW.

The new RX-5 relies on a second-generation Net Blue petrol engine, devised to offer more power and efficiency. The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces 171hp and 275Nm torques, making the new car 10 per cent more powerful than its predecessor. This also helps the top speed of the RX-5, which now gets rated at 190kph. All trim levels get mated to a DCT gearbox as standard.

Prices for the new MG RX-5 will be announced shortly. The all new MG RX-5 also receives a six-year/2,00,000km warranty.
