Mercedes Refreshes EQA And EQB EVs

Better range, tweaked design and improved features are among the changes.

The least expensive duo in the Mercedes-EQ portfolio, the EQA and the EQB, have received their midlife refresh. The usual aspects are part of the updates, including a tweaked exterior, an updated interior, enhanced features and improved range.

Courtesy of the new black panel at the front, the refreshed EQA and EQB finally look like their more expensive stablemates. Moreover, a light bar has been included to join the LED DRLs, part of the headlamp enclosures. Other changes on the outside include a new front bumper, new wheel designs (four of them in 18, 19 and 20 inches) and two new colours – spectral blue and high-tech silver.

Changes indoors are just as subtle. The steering wheel has been changed to the latest one, featuring touch control panels. The trim in the cabin is in brown lime open-pore wood. Besides that, all derivatives of the refreshed EQA and EQB will pack the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the USB package. Mercedes says that certain features can be activated via OTA updates.

Mercedes has also made a few aerodynamic optimisations for the duo, such as the taillight-integrated ridge and new tyres. As a result, the EQA can deliver up to 560km of range (WLTP). And the updated MBUX system, besides offering a more convenient layout, comes with a “range monitoring” function. Once activated, several energy-saving ways are displayed, including shifting to Eco Driving Mode with the gearbox set to D (auto) and Eco+ climate control function. The EVs also have wireless support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a softkey for opening the charging flap.

At launch, the refreshed EQA will be available in four variants – 250, 250+, 300 4Matic and 350 4Matic – covering two battery sizes – 66.5kWh and 70.5kWh. Depending on the derivative chosen, the EQA’s output will vary between 188hp/385Nm and 288hp/520Nm. And, as you’d expect, the WLTP-certified range figures will also be different. They can be between 411km and, as mentioned above, 560km.

The new EQB, on the other hand, will be available in three variants – 250+, 300 4Matic and 350 4Matic. The powertrain and the battery sizes will be the same as in EQA. However, because the EQB is bigger and heavier, it can only manage a maximum range of 536km. Mercedes will also offer a trailer hitch with ESP trailer stabilisation with the five-seater version. For this, the bodyshell has been reinforced, and the maximum towing capacity with brakes is up to 1,700kg.

Mercedes-Benz will open the order books for the refreshed EQA and EQB at the beginning of fall of this year. Dealers across Europe will get them in early 2024.
