Manhart-Tuned SL Pumps Out 707hp

Just 10 examples will be made.

Let’s not even argue; the latest-gen Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic+ is just as gorgeous to behold as it is potent to deliver a high-dose adrenaline rush. And yet, Manhart has taken it and made things spicier. The German tuner has devised an example called the SL 700 R. This isn’t an ordinary modification job, as the folks from Wuppertal will only make 10 examples.

Let’s revisit the standard AMG SL 63. It packs a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that offers 585hp/800Nm, enough to justify the claim above. To spice things up, Manhart improved the intercooler and installed an air filter upgrade and a Mhtronik powerbox. As a result, the SL 700 R pumps out 707hp/935Nm. Simple subtraction reveals an increment of 122hp/135Nm. To harness the extra oomph effectively, Manhart has even made changes to the 9-speed automatic transmission. As in the original, the all-wheel drive does its thing for the tuned version. One could even opt for OPF delete sport downpipes with 600-cell catalytic converters in the mix. However, that setup isn’t TÜV-approved.

The SL 700 R dons Manhart’s typical paint scheme – gold on a black base. That’s accompanied by Manhart Forged Line wheels by mbDESIGN with a Y-spoke design. They measure 22 inches in diameter, with 295/30Z and 335/25 Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 rubber at the front and rear, respectively. The brake callipers, part of the standard braking system, boast the ‘Manhart’ lettering. Upon request, the tuner will offer further customisation and modification options, including the chassis, braking system, and interior.

For those who have an AMG SL 63 – do you like what you see? If yes, don’t waste time because of what is mentioned above. And to those who don’t own one – do you think Manhart has done a good job with the SL 700 R? And, to both sets – is limiting the performance upgrade to just 10 specimens too less?
