Lexus Updates The UX 300e

Besides structural and equipment enhancements, the all-electric crossover gets a larger battery.

It was in May this year when Lexus unveiled the refreshed UX crossover in two forms – 200 and 250h. Joining the range is the updated 300e variant which, apart from structural and equipment enhancements, gets a larger battery. And yes, that offers a substantial increase in the range department.

To improve the structural rigidity of the crossover, Lexus has added 20 spot welding points to the body around the side and back doors. Moreover, the car was tested extensively to improve the EPS, shock absorbers and a few other elements. And by default, the EV boasts Yamaha-sourced Performance Dampers at the rear. And yes, the zero-emissions version looks a little different when compared to the hybrid and ICE-powered derivatives.

Lexus has also made changes indoors, with the latest 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment placed closer to the driver. A few buttons and switches have changed shape and place, and there are two new USB-C ports just ahead of the cupholders.

In the features section, the new UX 300e ropes in a panoramic view monitor, support for the brand’s Digital Key and an enhanced version of the Lexus Safety System+. The safety blanket includes an improved Pre-Collision System, Lane Tracing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Emergency Driving Stop System. The connected-car tech allows the UX 300e to receive OTA software updates when required.

The most notable change, however, is one that hides underneath the quirky exterior. Instead of the 54.4kWh battery, the updated UX 300e packs a 72.8kWh pack. That improves the range by over 40 per cent to 450km (WLTC). The motor it powers, however, remains unaltered. Mounted on the front axle, the electric motor offers 201bhp/300Nm. Those figures aren’t shabby but the UX 300e weighs nearly 1.9 tonnes.

Lexus confirms that deliveries of the updated UX 300e will commence in the spring of 2023. How do you like it?
