Last chance to get yourself a W16 engine and a one-off Bugatti
Auction house RM Sotheby’s auctioning an one-of-one Chiron Profilée
Attention, petrolheads! The last of Bugatti’s famed W16 quad-turbocharged petrol engine is going under the hammer. Famous auction house RM Sotheby’s will be listing a one-of-one Chiron Profilée on sale at its upcoming auction at Paris’s famous Carrousel du Louvre on 1st February. Bidding begins at 16:00 CET.
Besides being the last W16 engine sold directly from the Atelier in Molsheim, the owner of this yet-to-be-sold Chiron would be getting himself a unicorn. The car on sale was essentially an exclusive customer commission asking Bugatti for a hypercar, “more radical than the Chiron Sport but less extreme than the Chiron Pur Sport, without sacrificing performance and comfort”. The outcome was the Bugatti Chiron Profilée, and Bugatti claims it would never build another one like it.
What sets the Profilée from other Chiron derivatives is the sweeping fixed tail, the sole example in Bugatti’s modern stable, and wheels developed exclusively for this model. The latter further boasts a horseshoe design inspired by Bugatti’s grille. Even the exterior paint shade, Argent Atlantique, is exclusive to the Chiron Profilée. And complementing the blue shade is the application of Bleu Royal Carbon tint on the Profilée’s exposed carbon fibre parts.
The Chiron Profilée may feature distinct design features, but the hypercar remains mechanically identical to the Pur Sport. This entails the 1600hp 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 can accelerate from 0-100kph in 2.3 seconds and keep pushing to 380kph, making it 30kph higher than the Pur Sport courtesy of the unique aerodynamic design.
Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles, said: “Unprecedented demand for the Chiron models meant that, despite all the developments and tests we had already done, we could not bring the Profilée to production. But how could we not finish such a beautifully designed and engineered car? Offering it for sale at auction through RM Sotheby’s will give our customers, but also Bugatti devotees around the world, a fair chance of acquiring and enjoying this truly historic car.”
