Lamborghini is on the road to electrification and will unveil its first electric car in 2028

The Urus and the Aventador’s descendant are the first to be involved

In order to comply with the future environmental standards that will weigh on the automotive industry, Lamborghini is choosing the path of electrification like many other brands. Thus, the Urus will be the first to start this small revolution by becoming the first hybrid model of the pack. It will then be the turn of the Aventador’s replacement to adopt a similar technology.

In detail, the Urus will receive a plug-in hybrid powertrain that will allow it to travel approximately 50 km in electric mode. Also, an electric motor will assist the 4.0-litre V8 to provide additional power, which should reach 820 PS. Aesthetically speaking, this plug-in hybrid version will adopt minor changes and will be presented in 2023.

The Aventador’s replacement, due in the same year, will retain a 6.5-litre V12 and combine it with an electric motor to increase performance. It will also be possible to drive fully electric, but over a shorter distance than the Urus, as the system favors performance over efficiency. Stephan Winkelmann also confirmed the arrival of the first electric Lamborghini for 2028.

The car in question will not be a variation of an existing vehicle but a completely new model. What’s more, we now know that it will be a car more suited to everyday use, with four doors and a higher ground clearance than the rest of the range. It is therefore very likely that this future vehicle will be a family sedan possibly inspired by the Estoque concept car presented in 2008.

Although Lamborghini has finally taken the step of going electric, the brand will not focus all its research on this propulsion mode. The manufacturer also remains alert to the possibility of synthetic fuels that will extend the life of internal combustion engines over the long term. However, Lamborghini does not intend to launch itself immediately on this market but remains in close contact with Porsche, the other brand of the Volkswagen group which is more advanced in this field.
