Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ wins 2024 Car Design Award for Brand Design Language

The much-acclaimed EV9 SUV is a product of this design language

Kia has earned top honours at the 2024 Car Design Award ceremony, for ‘Brand Design Language’ at the Milan Design Week.

Kia’s radical design philosophy, ‘Opposites United,’ was unveiled to the world in 2021. The design language which is used to produce fresh perspectives basis itself on three principles – tension, harmony, and dynamism.

The juries of Car Design Award 2024 stated:

“With its Opposite United philosophy, Kia design has taken a non-conformist approach with the aim of inducing change, unafraid of taking risks. Unexpected at first sight, Kia’s new models brake the mould with long-established aesthetic parameters to introduce a totally new and modern formal language. A relentless innovation to establish a new identity,”

One among Kia’s new vehicles that have been heralded for their design is the EV9 SUV, which won the prestigious ‘2024 World Car of the Year’ and the ‘2024 North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year’. Kia also won gold at the iF Design Awards with the EV9.

The winners of the 2024 Car Design Award were announced at a ceremony in the ADI Design Museum in Milan during this year’s Milan Design Week held from 15 to 21 April. On behalf of Kia, it was Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design and Executive Vice President, who received the award.

The Car Design Award which was instituted in 1984, has served as global recognition for the design teams that envision and create the best concept cars, production vehicles, and overall design language. The jury, comprised of journalists from internationally renowned automotive and design publications, selects only 10 production car and 10 concept car projects from the past year, and nominates just five brands, for consideration for design language.
