What is ISRL?
ISRL stands for the Indian Supercross Racing League. It is a franchise-based Supercross championship created by former racers Veer Patel, Eeshan Lokhande and Aashwin Lokhande through Team Supercross India Pvt. Ltd., bringing professional off-road motorcycle racing to India. The championship combines franchise-owned teams featuring both Indian and international riders.
Indian Supercross Racing League was first unveiled in June 2023. However, the first competitive season of ISRL commenced on 28 January 2024 in Pune.
Supercross is a form of off-road motorcycle racing conducted on purpose-built dirt tracks featuring jumps, berms, tight corners and other obstacles.
How has ISRL grown?
Since its debut, ISRL has shown robust growth in attendance, visibility, team participation and commercial interest. The inaugural season witnessed 30,000 live spectators across three rounds and approximately 11.5 million broadcast and digital viewers. One of the highlights of Season 1 was the interest and participation shown by established manufacturers such as Honda, KTM and Kawasaki.
Season 2 built on season one by attracting more than 55,000 live spectators across three rounds, and the addition of two new franchise teams and commercial partners. The finale alone, held at EMS Corporation Stadium in Calicut, attracted more than 32,000 spectators.
What to expect from Season 3?
Promoters and partners of ISRL are expecting Season 3 to feature a larger, more fan-focused championship combining international Supercross competition with Indian rider development. Season 3 is all set to introduce the Indian Futures category designed to develop and nurture budding Indian riders.
A new franchise is also set to join the championship, while complete details on it are still under wraps; expect an official announcement very soon.
