It was in October this year that Jeep India announced the forthcoming arrival of its fourth locally-assembled model – the fifth-gen Grand Cherokee. Now, we’ve got some more meaty updates. Jeep has commenced production of the SUV in question at its Ranjangaon plant. Also, pre-bookings are now open at select Jeep dealerships. If you don’t want to travel physically, you can reserve one via Jeep India’s website.
Unfortunately, Jeep hasn’t revealed the mechanical specifications just yet. But the American brand has shared a list of stuff that the all-new Grand Cherokee will pack. One of the main highlights is the Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS), which ropes in features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Active Lane Management System, Intersection Collision Assist System, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning and Pedestrian Emergency Braking.
Apart from that, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee will have an Active Noise Control System, 3-point seatbelts and occupant detection for all five seats, connected-car features with remote functions, a panoramic sunroof and perforated leather seats. And the list goes on with a 10-inch head-up display, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a segment-first 10.25-inch interactive display for the front passenger.
As mentioned above, there’s still no official confirmation on the engine. But to keep costs in check, the new Grand Cherokee is likely to pack the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that serves the Wrangler. In the latter, the powerplant generates 268hp/400Nm. However, if Jeep decides to offer the same mill, it’ll probably pack more punch for its flagship model (Grand Cherokee).
Whatever engine it may be, the SUV will have Jeep’s Quadra-Trac 4×4 system, coupled with the Selec-Terrain traction management system. That means the driver will have the flexibility to change on- and off-road settings to get the best out of the four-wheel-drive system.
Jeep India will reveal the prices of the new Grand Cherokee on November 11, 2022. And as far as deliveries are concerned, they will start by the end of the month.
