Hublot has introduced the Classic Fusion Essential Taupe, “the fourth edition in Hublot’s Essential monochrome series.” Available in 2 case sizes of 42 mm and 45 mm, they are available exclusively on Hublot’s website.
Key Features
Image: 45 mm version. Taupe is a blend of grey and brown. The 6 H-shaped screws on the bezel are part of the brand’s design identity. Notice the brand’s logo counterweight on the seconds hand.
Functions and Operation
Central hours, minutes, and seconds. Date indicated at 3 o’clock.
Crown at 3 o’clock for winding, time setting, and date.
Dial
Taupe colour dial with a sunburst finish.
Case
Left: 42 mm version. Right: 45 mm version. I like the case execution and details. Notice the brand’s logo embossed on the crown. Strap seems super comfortable. The strap “fuses rubber and fabric in matching tones.” Its distinct woven thread is unique to the brand’s Essential collection, along with the watches monochromatic look.
Case is made from polished and satin-finished titanium. Bezel is made from satin-finished and polished titanium. Caseback is made from satin-finished titanium. Dial side and caseback feature a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment.
Case diameter: 42 mm. Thickness: 10.40 mm.
Case diameter: 45 mm. Thickness: 10.95 mm.
Water resistant up to 5 ATM or approximately 50 metres.
Both versions come with a taupe rubber and taupe fabric strap fitted to a deployant buckle clasp made from stainless steel.
Movement
Image: Calibre HUB1110 of the 42 mm version. A dependable automatic movement, easily serviceable by qualified watchmakers worldwide. Caseback is screwed to the main case.
42 mm version: Powered by HUB1110, an automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, seconds, and date. Parts: 177. Jewels: 25. Frequency: 4 Hz or 28,800 vph. Power reserve: Approximately 48 hours.
45 mm version: Powered by HUB1112, an automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, seconds, and date. Parts: 185. Jewels: 25. Frequency: 4 Hz or 28,800 vph. Power reserve: Approximately 48 hours.
According to online sources, both movements are based on the Sellita SW300-1, and feature hacking or a stop-seconds function.
Our Thoughts
Image: An excellent entry-level watch. I like how the finish of the hands and hour-markers match with the bezel and case. My only gripe is the date wheel. I wish it colour matched with the dial.
Hublot’s Classic Fusion Essential Taupe offers excellent value. USD$ 8,900 gets you the brand’s Classic Fusion design, a unique colour, a titanium case (and bezel and caseback), and a dependable automatic movement.
