Honda Motorcycles have been synonymous with their range of two-wheeled transportation – ranging from a lowly 90cc moped to a 1000cc superbikes – Honda has done it all – one thing they kept their hands off was integrating electric technology into their motorcycles.
However, that was about to be adjusted during the 2024 EICMA, Italy – In their bid to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 with their motorcycles, Honda has unveiled their first-ever electric concept for two wheels. Honda has showcased two different forms of EV concepts, dubbing them The Honda EV Fun and The Honda EV Urban.
The Honda EV Fun
The EV Fun concept is Honda’s debut in the electric performance class tasked with spearheading Honda’s next-generation electric sports bikes. The EV Fun concept is a naked street model – equivalent to a mid-size internal combustion-powered sports bike.
Honda says the overall dynamics of the EV Fun have been adapted from years of learning and perfection from Honda’s ICE models, combined with the EV technology and Honda’s decades of experience in fine-tuning the motorcycle for performance – EV Fun and any subsequent model emerging from this concept shall be a game changer.
On the Battery and Motor side of things, exact performance figures have not been disclosed, still in the Official Press Release – Honda did shed light on a few details, such as the Non-removable battery is placed in the centre of the motorcycle – quite identical to where the engine sits in the ICE models, and other few details such as the EV technology has been borrowed from Honda Automobiles and trickled it down to the motorcycle level – with subsequent optimisation of course.
The battery of the EV concept is compatible with a CCS2 quick charger, which is the same standard as for automobiles – and Honda Claims on a full charge – and the EV Fun is capable of providing a range of 100kms and above.
Honda EV Urban
Sitting on the same EV architecture as the EV Fun Concept – The EV Urban concept, as the name suggests, focuses on urban mobility with better slow-speed manoeuvrability on the city streets. Design-wise, the Urban concept – is a typical maxi scooter with some futuristic sci-fi styling – quite similar to the BMW ce04 an alternative electric maxi scooter from Munich, Germany.
With the global debut of the two EV concepts, Honda unveiled its plans to put the model into production by 2026 and declared its objective to launch 30 more EV models globally by 2030.
