GIRARD-PERREGAUX LAUNCHES NEO BRIDGES ASTON MARTIN EDITION AT DUBAI WATCH WEEK !

Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux’s Fifth Co-Branded Timepiece.

Dubai Watch Week: 16th – 20th November 2023.

Girard-Perregaux (GP) – the La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland based prestigious watchmaker has chosen Dubai Watch Week (DWW) to launch the Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition. Founded in 1791, Gerard-Perregaux is among the oldest of Swiss watchmakers. In 2021, they were announced as the Official Watch Partner of Aston Martin. Founded in 1913, Aston Martin is a famous British ultra-luxury sports car brand.

In Girard-Perregaux’s own words, ‘both companies have a rich heritage, with over 300 years of combined history, operating in the rarefied world of luxury. Moreover, the iconic British marque and Swiss Manufacture are synonymous with design excellence and no-compromise engineering, making them a perfect match. The collaboration between the two leaders has seen the creation of some truly exceptional timepieces, each one proudly bearing the name of both marques.’

The Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition is their fifth co-branded timepiece.

Design:

According to Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, ‘In this latest model, the Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition, the joint creative team – comprising designers from both companies – decide to challenge some commonly held horological conventions around the design of the movement. With due consideration given to structural rigidity, performance and beauty, I’m delighted with the result. This was not merely a case of putting Aston Martin’s name on one of our watches. They played an active role in the conception of this watch, looking at the materials employed and, interestingly the design of the movement. The Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition is the impressive outcome of two companies synergistically working together.’

According to Marek Reichmann, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Aston Martin Lagonda, ‘It was clear from the start of our relationship with Girard-Perregaux as our Official Watch Partner that we had a shared passion for precision and performance design. Our exchange of ideas about design details and specifications flowed openly, naturally, and the watches bearing our names have been authentically co-built through a shared spirit of true collaboration.’

Girard-Perregaux’s Bridges collection is connected to their historic DNA. According to Girard-Perregaux, ‘in 1867, Constant Girard sketched a pocket watch endowed with three parallel bridges. Unusually, these prominent bridges, essential components that form part of a movement’s structure, were refined and famously became design elements.’  The Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges became one of the most iconic designs in horology. Girard-Perregaux has taken this vital element from their heritage, and re-interpreted and reimagined it towards this modern timepiece. Design elements of the Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition are influenced by Aston Martin’s next generation sportscar – the DB12, their first ever Super Tourer.

Key design elements of the New Bridge Aston Martin Edition:

– This timepiece forgoes a conventional dial to reveal its inverted movement – self-winding calibre GP084000-2164. Components that are visible on the rear are now visible on the front.

– The two Neo-shaped bridges function as a support to the gear-train and balance wheel. The gear-train is visible centre and centre right of the dial, and the balance wheel at the lower part of the dial.

– The barrel is positioned on the top-right side of the dial and displays ‘Girard-Perregaux.’ The calibre’s microrotor is positioned on the top-left side of the dial and displays ‘Aston Martin.’ Both the barrel and microrotor draw inspiration from the brakes, which are positioned behind the spooked wheels of the Aston Martin DB12.

– The hour and minute hands are partly skeletonised, a reference to the automotive world, where excess material is removed to save weight. The remaining part of the hour and minute hands, along with the eleven suspended indexes, located on a ring around the dial, is lined with green-emission luminescent material.

– The colour of the two Neo-Shaped bridges, the minute-markers circling the dial, and the luminescent material in the hour and minute hands and eleven suspended indexes are all Green – a colour long associated with Aston Martin.

Case, Movement and Bracelet:

The Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition has a lightweight titanium case in black DLC. It has a case diameter of 45 mm and a case thickness of 12.18 mm. The dial side has an anti-reflective sapphire crystal ‘box,’ and the caseback side has a sapphire crystal with a white decal displaying ‘Aston Martin.’ The eleven suspended indexes around the dial and the skeletonized baton type hour and minute hands have luminescent material, which give out green emission. Water resistance is 30 meters or 3 ATM.

Self-winding calibre GP084000-2164 powers the Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition. Its functions are hours and minutes. It comprises of 208 components, has 29 jewels, beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibration per hour or 3 Hz, and has a power reserve of about 48 hours.

The timepiece comes with a black rubber strap with fabric effect and green stitches on its sides. It has a titanium DLC triple folding buckle.
