To optimise service and delivery times, Ford Middle East has set up a new parts distribution centre in Dubai. Dubai South, the biggest urban development site focusing on aviation, logistics, and real estate, inaugurated the facility in partnership with DB Schenker, a renowned name in logistics and supply chain solutions.
The facility, spanning 42,000 sq. ft., uses several of the latest solutions, covering material handling equipment, very narrow aisle systems, multi-tier mezzanines, deep selective racking, and cantilever racking. Furthermore, the parts distribution centre boasts 20 container docks, split equally between inbound and outbound operations. The SAP S/4HANA warehouse management software ensures that everything works smoothly. Also, there’s a dedicated Vehicle Off Road processing team in place. Its primary task is prioritising critical parts and reducing processing and dispatch times.
The facility’s location is strategically chosen as Dubai South provides seamless access to Jebel Ali Port via a bonded logistics corridor. The spare parts centre, which is 20 per cent larger than its predecessor, will serve several of Ford’s key markets across the GCC and sub-Saharan Africa.
By the end of the year, DB Schenker will install and inject a 400-kilowatt solar panel system for the distribution centre. It will not only reduce energy consumption by 35 per cent but also lower the carbon footprint by 290 tonnes per year.
