End of career for the Peugeot 508 PSE

The SW version will not be replaced either

All tales have an end… In the case of the Peugeot 508 PSE, the end of the story is not the happiest. After only two years in business, the sportiest 508 is bowing out due to insufficient sales. The SW estate version will follow the same path. In its fall, the large sedan also brings with it a promising logo, the PSE badge which was supposed to take over from the GTI emblem.

Presented in 2021, the 508 PSE had some interesting features: 360 PS, four wheel drive, plug-in hybrid technology and aggressive styling. Unfortunately, these features come at a price, as you have to pay around €70,000 to buy the services of this most powerful lion. Customers were not mistaken, as barely 2,000 models were sold in two years.

When you know that at least 7,500 units had to be sold to ensure the profitability of the project, you can understand why Peugeot preferred to stop there. Thus, the 508 PSE and 508 PSE SW will have no descendants. Worse still, they will not even be entitled to the mid-career facelift that is planned for the 508. Peugeot was planning a wide range of PSE vehicles at the time.

An e-208 PSE was already being studied, as was a 3008 PSE which has now been abandoned. As for the arrival of a 308 PSE, it also seems to be well compromised. The French brand intends to simplify the range of the 508, which does not sell very well compared to SUVs. Thus, the facelift will remove the lower trim levels and it is also likely that the purely combustion engines will be dropped.
