Emirates Relishing The Busy Summer Season

Between June and August 2023, the airline carried more than 14 million passengers.

Dubai has always been a popular destination for leisure and business. And it seems the traffic is only going to increase. After yesterday’s revelation about how busy DXB (Dubai International Airport) was during the first half of this year, the locally-headquartered airline Emirates has today shared that the summer of 2023 has been one of its busiest ever.

Between June and August 2023, the world’s largest international airline ferried more than 14 million passengers. Emirates operated nearly 50,000 flights to and from 140 cities worldwide for this demand. And the average seat load factor exceeded 80 per cent. The top countries from where Emirates flew passengers to its hub included the United Kingdom, India, Germany, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, China, Egypt and Kuwait. The carrier claims that over 35 per cent of visitors to Dubai were families and, on average, stayed for more than two weeks.

During this summer season, Emirates launched daily flights to a new destination – Montreal, Canada. Besides that, it added extra flights to serve demand to 12 cities – Athens, Brisbane, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Amsterdam, Budapest, Bologna, Medina, Jeddah, Entebbe, Venice and Shanghai. Also, Emirates reinstated daily A380 services to Birmingham, Nice, Taipei and Shanghai. Other measures to bolster the network included a new A380 service to Bali and a 4-class A380 aircraft (with Premium Economy) to Singapore, Los Angeles and Houston.

Emirates also announced new interline and expanded codeshare agreements with Kenya Airways, Air Canada and Philippine Airlines. Courtesy of its 157 airline and rail partners, Dubai’s flagship carrier enables passengers to connect to over 800 cities in 100 countries.

The airline also expects a busy winter season, as Dubai will host various global conferences and sporting events, among others. The city has already welcomed more than 8.5 million travellers between Jan-June 2023, which is over a million more during the same period from 2022.
