In motorsport, we have seen some very exotic cars. From the Mercedes AMG GT in F1, to the Corvette in Daytona, safety car drivers get to drive some of the coolest cars on Earth. But there have been even cooler safety cars in motorsport history.
Renault Clio 16V
Back in 1995 at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, the Clio 16V was a safety car. So not only was the Clio 16V named after the then Renault-powered Williams F1 team, it also had a part to play in Formula 1 races.
Porsche 914
Only avid motorsport fans will remember that the Porsche 914 was once used as a safety car. The 1973 Canadian Grand Prix is knows for the controversy cause by the Porsche. After Jody Scheckter and Francois Cevert’s crash, the 914 was deployed but it came out in front of the wrong car which allowed several of the leaders to gain a lap on their rivals.
Lamborghini Countach
The Countach has to be the coolest safety car of all time. In the 1983 Monaco Grand Prix, the Lamborghini was used as a safety car. From a practical point of view, it was difficult to wave the flag from the teeny-meeny window of the Italian supercar. But then, we doubt the safety car driver would have cared about it, after all, he was in the exotic Lambo Countach.
nice
The Countach is the winner till date.
Absolutely!
Why have I never heard of the Countach as a safety car?! I was today years old when I found this out
Glad to know that! The Countach safety car was something that surprised me as well
Never knew the Countach had been a safety car, would be cool to see the new Countach as a safety car
The Countach is the lesser-known of the lot; having the new one as a safety car isn’t a bad idea at all
