Dubai-based Emirates, touted as the world’s largest international airline, stole headlines in November 2022 when it announced the commencement of the most expensive aircraft retrofitting programme the industry had ever witnessed. At an estimated cost of 5 billion US$, it would modernise the interiors of 110 Airbus A380 and 109 Boeing 777 long-hauliers operated by Emirates. Simple math reveals 219 aircraft, of which 51 have already been upgraded.

Over the past few months, Emirates has deployed the retrofitted wide-body aircraft to several destinations worldwide. Eight more are set to join the list. The airline’s upgraded A380 aircraft will be deployed to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Nice and Perth, whereas the revamped Boeing 777s will fly to Madrid, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket and Frankfurt. Emirates has also announced the launch of a second, refitted Boeing 777 on the Dublin route, scheduled for December 1, 2025. For others, here’s the plan:

Additionally, Emirates anticipates receiving its first Airbus A350-900ULR later this year. The aircraft, which has a range of more than 14,000 km and a non-stop flying time of over 15 hours, will be assigned to Adelaide duty, serving guests on flights EK440/EK441 starting December 1, 2025. Before the year’s end, Emirates is likely to take delivery of five such widebody jets, each configured with 32 lie-flat Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, 28 seats in Premium Economy, and 238 seats in Economy.
