Airlines worldwide enter codeshare/interline agreements with other operators to expand their reach and, in the process, deliver a seamless travelling experience to their customers. Dubai-headquartered Emirates and Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia launched a codeshare partnership in 2022. Since then, the duo has expanded the scope of the agreement by adding more destinations and rewards. The latest addition to the partnership is a joint loyalty programme offering. Essentially, both airlines open the possibility to earn and redeem flyer miles and accumulate under Emirates Skywards and GarudaMiles, across a joint network of more than 200 destinations.
Emirates customers can earn and redeem flyer miles while travelling with the Indonesian carrier across 37 destinations in the archipelago and over 15 destinations worldwide. Here’s the math for earning/redeeming Skywards Miles: up to 1 Mile per mile flown in Economy; 1.25 Miles per mile in Business Class; and 2 Miles per mile in First Class. Redemption of accumulated Skywards Miles is available for Economy and Business Class travel, starting at 8,000 Miles.
Reciprocally, GarudaMiles members can pile on miles and redeem them while travelling across Emirates’ network, including flight rewards for Economy and Business Class cabins. Emirates presently operates two daily services to Jakarta and Bali, using Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. These services allow Indonesian flyers to connect to over 140 destinations across six continents.
