Continental Extends Partnership With Tour de France

The new agreement will see the German automotive group support the world’s largest cycling race until 2027.

Tour de France needs no introduction. It is the largest cycling race globally. Several big names from varied sectors support the event, and one of the prominent names on that list is Continental. The German automotive group, which also makes tyres, came into the equation in 2017. It has been in there as a sponsor and safety partner with the Tour de France. That partnership has now been extended up to and including 2027.

Continental has been one of the five main partners of the cycling race since 2019. Also, the brand has been the tyre supplier for the official support vehicles and the participating bicycles in the sport. By 2030, Continental aims to become the world’s most sustainable tyre manufacturer. The forthcoming Tour de France events will play a critical role in achieving that goal.

Here’s what Ferdinand Hoyos, Head of Continental’s tyre replacement business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), said in an official release:

We welcome the Tour de France’s drive for greater sustainability, and support this wherever possible. That’s why, for example, we are equipping the official support vehicles in this year’s tour with tyres based on our new ContiRe.Tex technology, each of these tyre sets incorporates recycled polyester from reprocessed PET material.

This year, six participating professional cycling teams will use Continental’s handmade GP5000 tyres. The list comprises Bahrain-Victorious, Ineos Grenadiers, Groupama-FDJ, Movistar Team, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux and Team Arkéa-Samsic.

In 2022, which marks the 109th edition of the Tour de France, the race will start on July 1 in Copenhagen – Denmark’s and Europe’s bicycle capital. The event will cover around 3,335 kilometres and 21 stages. It will end on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris, France, on July 24.
