The winter season is officially over. Cathay Group didn’t waste much time announcing its plans for the summer period this year. Among other things, it aims to strengthen the network in mainland China. During the peak period, Cathay Group plans to operate nearly 300 weekly return flights from Hong Kong to 20 destinations on the Chinese mainland, approximately 40 per cent more than in 2024.
While Cathay hasn’t shared specifics on all 20 destinations on its radar this summer, it has shed some light on a few. Starting with Beijing, the Cathay Group will increase the daily return flights count to seven to Beijing Capital International Airport. Moreover, HK Express will fly daily to Beijing Daxing International Airport. Put together, the group will have 56 weekly return flights to Beijing’s two major airports from Hong Kong.
The group has a similar but beefier plan for Shanghai. In addition to increasing daily return services to eight between Hong Kong and Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Cathay will operate eleven weekly return flights to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, bringing the weekly count to 67 between the two cities.
Additionally, Cathay Pacific will operate a daily return flight to Zhengzhou, Ningbo, Haikou, and Chongqing. Adding to the weekly tally will be daily HK Express services to Ningbo this summer. The group will also increase flights to Hangzhou, operating four return services daily. Other increases in services include two daily flights to Nanjing, 10 per week to Wenzhou, and 12 per week to Wuhan.
That’s not all. On April 28, 2025, Cathay Pacific will begin operating direct flights between its home hub and Urumqi. Additional destinations to be added to Cathay Pacific’s network include Hyderabad, Dallas, Rome, Munich, and Brussels. On the other hand, HK Express will begin serving Sendai, Nha Trang, Ishigaki, Komatsu, Cheongju, Daegu, and Miyako. The group will make more such announcements in the coming weeks.
