BYD Seal, Qin Plus And Song Plus Launched In The UAE

One is an EV, and two are PHEVs.

China’s BYD (Build Your Dreams) has expanded its list of offerings in the UAE by launching three new models – Seal, Song Plus and Qin Plus. While the first is an electric vehicle (EV), the latter two are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The BYD Seal is available in two variants – Premium and Performance. In the same order, they are priced at AED 164,900 and AED 194,900. Similarly, the BYD Song Plus has two derivatives – front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD). They are priced at AED 119,900 and AED 143,900, respectively. The BYD Qin Plus has just one variant, priced at AED 91,000.

BYD Seal

In Premium form, the BYD Seal has a single electric motor powering the rear wheels. With a maximum output of 308hp/360Nm, it can hit 100kmph from nothing in 5.9 seconds and top out at 180kmph. If you want more punch, get the Performance derivative. That has two electric motors, jointly producing 523hp/670Nm. The extra oomph translates to a 0-100kmph sprint time of 3.8 seconds. The top speed, however, is the same as the less expensive version. The EV has an 82.5kWh battery, which, depending on the variant, delivers up to 570km of range.

The BYD Seal comes with various creature comforts and safety systems. The list includes a panoramic glass roof, 19-inch rims, two wireless mobile chargers, powered and ventilated front seats with memory function, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment system.

BYD Song Plus

Unlike the Seal, the Song Plus is an SUV. The FWD variant packs an electric motor and a 1.5-litre engine. While the former offers 197hp/325Nm, the latter is good for 139hp/231Nm. As a result, the BYD Song Plus can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 8.3 seconds and clock 170kmph flat out. The AWD version ropes in an additional electric motor. The two electric motors generate 360hp/596Nm combined. The extra oomph drops the 0-100kmph acceleration time to 6.5 seconds and ups the top speed to 180kmph. In both variants, there’s an 18.3kWh battery providing the juice for electric motors. On electric power alone, the range is between 100-110km, derivative dependent.

The BYD Song Plus has a long list of features, including a sunroof, an electric tailgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and a 10-speaker sound system.

BYD Qin Plus

Like the Song Plus, the BYD Qin Plus employs the duties of a conventionally-fuelled engine and an electric motor. The latter produces 195hp, whereas the former generates 109hp. The total system torque is 325Nm. As a result, the Qin Plus can hit 100kmph from nothing in 7.3 seconds and register 185 flat out. Here, too, the electric motor is backed by an 18.3kWh battery. That’s efficient enough to deliver an electric-only range of 120km.

The BYD Qin Plus, although the least expensive of the treo, is handsomely equipped. The features list includes a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 17-inch rims, dual-zone automatic climate control, a PM2.5 air filter, Hill Start Assist, cruise control and an electronic parking brake.

The three new introductions join BYD Han and BYD Atto 3 in the UAE market. Of the lot, which one would you pick?
