“I’ve always loved the Jumping Hour complication. It’s quite rare and something of a connoisseur’s complication. It’s complex to realise but simple in its appearance. It also mixes digital and analogue references which I love and almost mirrors my own life’s journey. It’s mechanical at heart but digital in its display – born analogue but having to learn and grow with digital.”Davide Cerrato, Bremont CEO.

“The high performance Bremont Jumping Hour movement operates through a system of gears and springs, allowing the hour disc to “jump” to the next numeral at the exact moment the minute hand completes a full revolution. In this instance the calibre developed is high performance with high torque, ensuring the jump is less than 1/10 second.”

The movement features a Glucydur balance wheel, Anachron balance spring, and a Nivaflex mainspring.

Our Thoughts

Bremont’s origins and DNA is rooted in aviation. Their watches eventually included other forms of adventure such as diving, and mountain climbing. Their collections broadly fall under three categories: Terra Nova – land, Supermarine – sea, and Altitude – air. They also make watches for military and armed forces, including special projects.

Both the Terra Nova Jumping Hour Bronze and Terra Nova 40.5 Jumping Hour – as their name suggests – feature a jumping hours complication. It is nice to see this complication being democratised. Haute horology brands famous for jumping hours include A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, and Vacheron Constantin, to name a few.

For collectors seeking a jumping hour complication dressed in a military or land inspired field watch, and one that is relatively affordable, either one of the two models would be a unique addition to their collection. At the time of authoring this article, both models are either sold out (bronze version) or out of stock (stainless steel version). If Bremont constantly churns our unique models such as these, it has a bright future indeed.
