Taiwan’s China Airlines and Boeing have unveiled a new aircraft deal. It includes a firm order and options for Boeing’s 777-9s and 777-8 Freighter aeroplanes. More specifically, the airline has placed a firm order for ten 777-9s and four 777-8 Freighters, with the option of purchasing an extra five of the former kind and four of the latter.
With this order, China Airlines becomes the first Taiwanese carrier to order Boeing’s 777X aircraft. The world’s largest twin-engine jet, the 777-9, promises 20 per cent lower fuel consumption and emissions than its predecessor. At the same time, it can travel non-stop for 7,295 nautical miles (13,510 km), enabling the airline to launch high-capacity long-haul routes to North America and Europe. With a typical two-class configuration, the Boeing 777-9 will have seats for 426 passengers.

On the other hand, the Boeing 777-8 Freighter offers the same payload capacity as a 747-sized cargo aircraft while improving fuel efficiency and emissions by 30 per cent and reducing noise footprint by up to 60 per cent. Moreover, China Airlines has been a long-time operator of the 777-300ER and 777 Freighter. Shifting to Boeing’s latest widebody offering will benefit the carrier with operational similarity.
