BMW unveiled the refreshed 4 Series Coupe and Convertible in February this year, along with their M versions. Now, the updated i4 and the 4 Series Gran Coupe have joined the party. As you’d expect, the same mantra has been used to justify the mid-life update.
On the outside, both the i4 and the Gran Coupe receive styling tweaks, along with sharper-looking headlamps and taillamps. New paint options (New Cape York and Fire Red) and new wheel designs are also available. Adaptive LED headlights and Laserlight rear lights from the BMW M4 CSL are optional extras. Those seeking to add a sporty touch can do so via the optional M Sport Package Pro, M Carbon Package, and M Performance Parts.
The new curved infotainment system running on the latest operating system demands attention. Standard models come with a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel. However, one could opt for one with a three-spoke flat-bottomed design. Another development in the same area is the standard fitment of paddle shifters for the combustion-engined variants.
The new BMW i4 now has four variants – eDrive35, eDrive40, xDrive40 and M50 xDrive. The first two are rear-wheel-drive, and the latter two are all-wheel-drive. Depending on the variant chosen, the power and torque figures vary between 286hp/400Nm and 544hp/795Nm. The quickest of the lot takes just 3.9 seconds to complete the standard sprint.
On the other hand, the 4 Series Gran Coupe body style is available in five derivatives – three petrol (420i, 430i xDrive and M440i xDrive) and two diesel (420d and 430d xDrive). Both diesel and range-topping petrol powerplants comprise a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Also, all Gran Coupe variants pack an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. The peak output falls between 184hp/300Nm and 374hp/500Nm for petrol derivatives and between 190hp/400Nm and 286hp/650Nm for diesel.
An improvement on the standard safety and assistance kit has also been practised here. The list includes a front collision warning system, Speed Limit Info, a Parking Assistant, and a rear-view camera.
BMW will produce the i4 and the 4 Series Gran Coupe at its plant in Munich. The market launch will start in July 2024.
