Bangalore Watch Company™ unveils the tempting new Peninsula Carbon

• The latest addition to the brand's Peninsula collection. • It features a world-first dial made from ReforgeCarbon™, a proprietary material.

What is the Bangalore Watch Company Peninsula Carbon?

The Peninsula Carbon is the latest addition to Bangalore Watch Company’s (BWC) Peninsula collection. Unveiled last year, the Peninsula collection’s four models celebrate India’s natural landscapes. Agumbe celebrates the rainforests, Laccadive the coastlines, Zanskar the mountains and Mannar the deep waters. The Peninsula Carbon puts the spotlight on India’s cities. It is a limited edition of 100 pieces.

“When we launched the Peninsula collection in 2025, it was about celebrating the mountains, oceans, and forests. This time, we are shifting our focus to cities. Our cities are home to just 2% of the worlds’ population but contribute 70% of the carbon footprint. Peninsula Carbon is a reminder of that reality.”Mercy Amalraj, Co-Founder of BWC.

What is so unique about its dial?

Left: Unfinished dial. Right: Finished dial. Notice the mock-AQI meter. No two dials are alike. “We are proud of our material contribution to this project with Bangalore Watch Company.”Tejas Sidnal, CEO and Founder of Carbon Craft.

The dial is made from a proprietary material called ReforgeCarbon. BWC worked closely with Carbon Craft, a Bangalore based material science company to develop it.

“Each dial is formed by compressing carbon fibres and recovered carbon black within a thermoset resin under high pressure — producing a material that is exceptionally lightweight, structurally strong, and visually unlike anything produced by conventional carbon fibre manufacturing. Recovered carbon black (rCB) is a fine carbon material obtained through the pyrolysis of end-of-life industrial byproducts — materials that would otherwise be subject to uncontrolled burning and released as pollutants into the atmosphere.

The diamond cut and rhodium-plated hands and hour-markers are coated with BGW9 Grade-A Super-LumiNova. A mock-AQI meter replaces the traditional hour and minute scale.

Is it powered by an automatic movement?

Yes. It is powered by Sellita SW200-1, a Swiss Made automatic movement that drives the central hours, minutes, seconds, and date at 6 o’clock. Power reserve: 41 hours. According to online sources, this movement has 26 Jewels, beats at a frequency of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and features a stop seconds function and a quickset date.

What are its case and strap features?

Image: I was fortunate to handle and try on the four models of the Peninsula collection in Bangalore last year. I like the pebble shaped case. Despite its large dimensions, it wears well on the wrist and is quite comfortable.

Its pebble shaped case is made from 316L stainless steel. It measures 44 mm (diameter) * 13.75 mm (thickness). Lug-to-lug distance: 31 mm. Lug width: 20 mm. Dial side features a super domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Closed caseback. Water resistant up to 20 ATM or approximately 200 metres. The watch comes with a Fluoro-elastomer high-density rubber strap fitted to a steel tang buckle from 316L stainless steel.

What do we think?

Just last week I was on a family holiday, travelling by car from New Delhi, India’s capital to Nanital, a town on the foothills of the outer Himalayas located at 6,358 feet above sea level. During the up-hill drive to Nanital featuring gorgeous panoramic views (and the frequent reminders for the driver to slow down during turns), I was reminded of BWC’s Peninsula collection. India is blessed with natural landscapes.

Image: A powerful image. The Peninsula Carbon next to particulate matter. “For most of human history, we did not live in permanent settlements. But today, the cities are the engines of economic growth and human ambition’ the biggest consequence of this is Carbon. Peninsula Carbon begins with that reality. It is not a sustainability argument, but a cultural statement. We have taken actual particulate matter and turned it into a precision object for our wrists.”Nirupesh Joshi, Co-Founder of BWC.

Yet, being a resident of a major urban city, Kolkata, and spending significant time in another, New Delhi, I could not agree more with the brand’s desire to unveil the Peninsula Carbon. Pollution and air quality are critical issues our cities are facing and addressing them is vital.

The Peninsula Carbon with its proprietary dial made from ReforgeCarbon and its mock-AQI meter might do little to influence national policy or citizens mindsets. Yet BWC, an Indian brand whose watches convey Indian stories, the Peninsula Carbon’s reminder of the carbon footprint of our cities will live on among the 100 watch enthusiasts and collectors who will get their hands on one. It is a watch striving to make a difference.
