ArtyA Genève, an independent Swiss watch brand, has presented its unique piece Curvy Purity Tourbillon Ruby in support of the Philippe & Elisabeth Dufour Fondation. It will be offered for sale at the Phillips Geneva Watch Auction: XXI being held during 10 – 11 May 2025.

Philippe Dufour, among the most legendary watchmakers of our times, personally selected the Curvy Purity Tourbillon Ruby in support of his wife’s and his namesake foundation.

“Helping, giving, and supporting are essential actions that embody the feeling of solidarity with those in distress. Grand or modest, these actions can bring hope and comfort, transforming lives. To be human is to show empathy and compassion—to actively seek to support those in need, to ease their daily struggles and help build a better future.”

“All proceeds from the sale will be donated in full to the Foundation to support essential charity projects. This is the spirit of this exceptional auction, which brings together master watchmakers and collectors, united in their desire to provide concrete support to those most in need.”

Functions

Hours and minutes. Seconds on the flying tourbillon.

Dial

Open dial showcasing the skeletonised movement.

Movement and Operation

Powered by a skeletonised manufacture movement, that has been developed, designed, and manufactured in Switzerland exclusively for ArtyA Genève. Crown at 12 o’clock for winding and setting the time.

It features a double barrel architecture (the two barrels act in parallel) whose steady torque provides “exceptional chronometric reliability.”

Large 18 mm flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. Frequency: 4 Hz. This is a high frequency for a tourbillon and provides “enhanced stability.”

“The fixed-stud tourbillon is regulated using a time-honoured approach reserved for haute horology. The balance wheel’s inertia is precisely adjusted via peripheral weights, resulting in perfectly regular hairspring oscillation and sustained long-term chronometric precision over time.”

Power reserve: 72 hours.

“All bridges are frosted with cast iron microbeads and meticulously bevelled by hand.”

Case and Strap

Tonneau case made from ruby-red sapphire crystal. “Sharing the same chemical composition as natural ruby, this extraordinary material proudly showcases the Geneva maison’s signature vermilion hue.”

Physical properties include: “Chemical composition: Al2O3. Cause of color: Cr3+. Density: 3.97 to 4.05 g/cm3. Hardness: 9 (Mohs scale). Dispersion: 0.018.”

Dimensions: 38.50 mm * 43 mm. Sapphire crystal caseback is screwed to the main case. Water resistant up to 30 metres. Watch comes with a black nubuck leather strap fitted to a pin buckle.

“We all come from somewhere, we all have a story, and we can all be bearers of hope. Beyond differences in colour, culture, belief, and ethnicity, we all suffer in the face of adversity. Suffering knows no boundaries, and neither does poverty. In the face of these hardships, we are all equals. We do not claim to save the entire world, but together, we can make a difference. May tears be transformed into optimism with our selfless help, and may every heart, where boundless kindness resides, remind us of our shared humanity. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the watchmaking community that supports our cause and shares our values for this second charity auction, as well as to Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo and their entire team. With them, we are confident that the spirit of solidarity will continue to thrive.”  Philippe and Elisabeth Dufour

Our Thoughts

ArtyA Genève makes exceptional watches, especially their penchant for tourbillon movements and sapphire crystal cases. So does Philippe Dufour, whose watches – Duality and Simplicity for example – have attained near mythical status. However, there are times when watches do not have to be about the watches themselves. Such as this instance when the watch industry comes together to help those in need and in distress.

The fortunate bidder of the Curvy Purity Tourbillon Ruby will get a lot more than a phenomenal high frequency tourbillon housed in a tonneau ruby-red sapphire case that can light up a room. He or she would have contributed to much needed charitable projects whose mission is to make a difference and transform the lives of people.
