Aprilia RS 457 – Debuts

Italian that’s ‘Made in India’.

Aprilia has unveiled the much anticipated RS 457 at its Noale Headquarters in Italy. The Motorcycle was designed and developed in Italy at Aprilia’s Headquarters, while the production is taken care of in India at Piaggio’s Manufacturing Facility

The 300 to 500cc segment has seen a very significant buzz lately with fresh new models gracing the market in that particular segment with the launches of the Harley Davidson X440, Triumph Speed 400, Apache RTR 310, the updated KTM Duke 390, and now the Aprilia RS 457 from Italy. But what Aprilia has to offer is unlike what these motorcycles have, Aprilia RS457 has a parallel twin-cylinder engine.

At its heart

The engine displacement capacity is still unclear but what we know so far according to Aprilia’s press release it produces 48hp from a DOHC liquid-cooled twin-cylinder motor with 4 valves per cylinder, Torque Figures have not been revealed yet, and as far as the displacement capacity is concerned perhaps the RS 457 moniker might be the hint to its displacement size.

Frame and Suspension

The Aprilia RS 457 encompasses an aluminium perimeter frame. The Suspension duties are handled by a preload adjustable 41mm USD with 120mm of travel, and a preload adjustable mono-shock at the rear which has 130mm of travel.

The stopping department is entrusted with a single 320mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc from Bybre. Tire sizes are 110/60 R17 at the front and 150/60 R17 at the rear.

Features and Design

The Aprilia RS 457 fairs comparatively well in the features department as it comes with a 5.0-inch TFT display, ride-by-wire throttle, and a three-level traction control.

The Design is a hand-me-down styling from its much bigger Siblings the RS660 and RSv4 not that it’s a bad thing because both of those bikes are a looker and so is the new RS 457.

Aprilia is likely to launch it in India during the Indian MotoGP Weekend this month alongside its star Moto Go rider lineup Aleix Espargaro (a three-time Moto GP race winner on RS-GP) and Maverick Vinales ( Moto GP Race winner and a podium Finisher on RS-GP).

The price has to be considerably higher than the new and recent entrants in the segment, but given that it is manufactured in India, Aprilia might be able to offer a more competitive price tag than the likes of other Twin cylinder Motorcycle the segment Ninja 400 which comes at Rs 5.2 lakh, ex-showroom, India.
