Al Futtaim Toyota launches the new Land Cruiser Prado in the UAE

Pricing starts from AED 199,900 with all-new exterior, interiors and off-road tech inside.

Toyota introduced the Prado nameplate to the Land Cruiser family in 1985 as a compact, lightweight variation of the iconic Land Cruiser. In 2023, Toyota took the covers off the all-new fifth-generation Land Cruiser Prado with completely overhauled exteriors, revamped interiors and a new, more capable off-road chassis. June 2024 saw Al-Futtaim Toyota launch the all-new fifth-generation Land Cruiser Prado in the United Arab Emirates.

Al Futtaim Toyota hosted a staycation launch for the new Land Cruiser Prado where select media personnel from the UAE region were tasked to drive the new Prado to Ras Al Khaimah to experience the car in various challenging terrains. The Cornea Impression was invited for the same as well and here’s a quick excerpt from our new Land Cruiser Prado drive experience.

The Japanese carmaker claims the previous-generation Prado models were starting to tilt heavily towards the luxury end of the market but with the new fifth-generation iteration, the Land Cruiser Prado has gone ‘back to basics’. Hence, Toyota has designed the all-new Land Cruiser Prado from scratch. It now features strong horizontal lines throughout the car to exhibit the look and functionality of a true off-road vehicle.

In an attempt to offer drivers the best frontal and side view possible, the Land Cruiser Prado’s engine hood has been designed with a lowered centre for immediate blind spot reduction, coupled with raised sides which make it easier to locate the vehicle’s corners. The mirrors now get attached to the doors and the shoulder beltline now sits 30mm lower than in the current model.

The new Land Cruiser Prado becomes the first Prado to be equipped with Electric Power Steering which further enables driver assistance features such as Lane Keep Assist to function. Adding to this list of advanced creature comforts is wireless charging for smartphones, a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 12.3-inch full graphic colour meter, a colour head-up display (HUD), a tri-zone automatic air conditioning system with rear AC vents, a 10-speaker surround sound system and multi-adjustable power and ventilated front and second-row seats.

The interior itself boasts a major design overhaul with the horizontal lines on the exterior being mimicked on the dashboard as well. Toyota has equipped tactile buttons for climate control, drive mode selector and traction control settings for easier operation during off-road manoeuvring. The new Prado’s all-terrain support system further features a two Differential Lock System (central and rear) that provides enhanced off-road capabilities on rough terrain along with superior wheel articulation. A new Auto mode is present as well to allow the Prado to choose the apt mode between sand, rock, dirt, and mud among the various Multi-Terrain Select capabilities. The 3D-Multi Terrain Monitor (3D-MTM), is essentially the presence of four cameras that can be used to the driver’s aid to see around the vehicle when Multi-Terrain Select is in operation.

The new Land Cruiser Prado comes with a new powertrain – a 2.4-litre inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 267 hp and 430 Nm of torque. It gets paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and is built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture GA-F platform, the same as the Land Cruiser 300 Series, which offers a 50% increase in frame rigidity and a 30% increase in overall rigidity for superior handling and a more stable ride on and off the road.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado can be had in multiple trim levels including dual-tone paint shades. Prices in the UAE range between AED 199,900 for the base variant and AED 254,900 for the top-spec Adventure trim. Customers eyeing exclusivity can opt for the 1st Edition trim priced at AED 264,900. What sets it apart are more luxurious interior accents, darker alloys, first edition badging across the car and a distinct front fascia with circular LED headlights instead of rectangular units seen on the standard trims.
