Airbus’ largest customer orders five more a350s

The A350 order book bumps to 75, of which 28 have already been delivered.

Lufthansa Group is Airbus’ largest customer in the world. Over the years, the German company has ordered 770 aircraft from the European manufacturer. That count includes a fresh new USD 2 billion firm order of five A350-1000 widebodies, equating to 15 aircraft of the same type. Lufthansa Group confirms that the aeroplanes from the latest deal will arrive between 2028 and 2030. With 60 A350-900s and 15 A350-1000s, the group will become one of the largest A350 operators in the world. Of them, 28 have already been delivered; the rest will join the group’s fleet by 2031.

The initial order for ten A350-1000s was placed in March 2023. Deliveries will begin in 2026. Also, the integration with ITA Airways is almost complete. Once completed, it will expand Lufthansa Group’s Airbus fleet with another 100 short—and long-range aircraft.

Lufthansa Group currently has 740 commercial aircraft in operation. The group has about 250 aeroplanes on order to modernise the fleet, including 100 widebodies. More efficient twin-engined aircraft will gradually phase out the older four-engined planes, including the Boeing 747-400s, Airbus A340-600s and the Airbus A340-300s.
