A Chiron Super Sport That Kept Bugatti Busy For Two Years

It’s a car of two halves.

Bugatti Sur Mesure. The translation from French to English (grateful, Google!) reads “Bespoke Bugattis”. If that’s incorrect, feel free to take corrective actions in the comments section. Don’t get confused; that in-house Bugatti division comes into play when an uber-wealthy earthling wants to spend even more for a uniquely finished hypercar. The specimen you see here is called the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’. And while that might be a mouthful and a half, it was one of the most challenging projects ever undertaken by the French carmaker.

The vision behind this creation came from a Bugatti collector. He wanted to blend two aspects on his one-off car – celebrate the W16 engine and pay homage to Bugatti’s history – with neither outshining the other. And to honour those demands, the Bugatti Sur Mesure team took a simple approach – each of the two aspects occupies a side of the hypercar. So, the driver’s side (exterior) features 19 hand-drawn sketches encapsulating the brand’s rebirth in 1987. And among the EB110, Veyron and Chiron drawings is a simple representation of the 3,712 components that came together and formed the W16 powerplant.

On the passenger side (exterior), 26 hand-made sketches illustrate Bugatti’s growth in the early 20th century. Among them are two of the brand’s iconic models – the Type 41 Royale and the Type 57 SC Atlantic. Another exclusive touch to the exterior is the paint scheme. The ‘Dore’ gold colour fades beautifully into a special metallic variant of ‘Nocturne Black’. And the way the sketches on the doors beam out of the black colour on both sides is just inspired. The ‘Golden Era’ has been cursively etched underneath the rear spoiler.

Inside, door sills read ‘1987-2023’ and ‘1909-1956’ on the driver’s and passenger’s side, respectively. Accompanying those are three modern-day Bugattis – the EB110, Veyron and Chiron –painted directly onto the leather of the driver’s door panel. Similarly, three classic Bugatti models – Type 35, Type 57 SC Atlantic and Type 41 Royale – are found on the passenger’s door. ‘Golden Era’ stitching is found on the seat headrests, and the centre console has a ‘One-of-One” motif.

In all fairness, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’ is a car of two halves. And the carmaker took two years to complete this project. The official handover will take place at the Monterey Car Week.
