What is the new Gerald Charles Maestro GC Sport Tennis Turquoise?

It is the latest addition to Gerald Charles’s Maestro Sport collection. Its turquoise dial, defined as “vibrant yet refined, bold yet elegant,” has never been featured in the collection before. The dial is housed in a Darkblast Grade 5 titanium case. An ultra-slim automatic movement powers the watch.

The Maestro GC Sport Tennis Turquoise was presented during Geneva Watch Days held during 2nd – 6th September yet officially launched earlier this month on 2nd October.

Earlier references of this model include a reference with a yellow dial, limited to 200 pieces, and a white dial, limited to 250 pieces.

What are its dial features?

Image: Notice the dial’s gradient effect, “which lightens as it nears the centre.” I like the frame bordering the date window, its colour matches the hands and numerals. The hour and minute scale on the outer dial follows the pattern of the asymmetric polygon-shaped case.

It features a turquoise dial on a grained textured base. The baton-shaped hour and minute hands are filled with white Super-LumiNova. The Arabic numerals (3-9-12) are filled with green C7 Super-LumiNova.

“The dial reveals a delicate gradient effect enhanced by a unique granular texture, creating a captivating interplay of depth and light that changes continuously with every movement of the wrist. Dynamic and expressive, the Light Turquoise dial transforms the watch into a true statement piece while preserving the understated sophistication that defines Gerald Charles.”

What are its case and strap features?

Left: “Darkblast® is a proprietary sandblasting technique developed by the Maison, specifically designed to improve the metal’s resistance to corrosion and scratches.” The screw-down crown on the left-hand side features a Clous de Paris pattern and is embossed with the brand’s logo. The dial-matching textured velcro strap is hand-stitched in Geneva. An “easy removal system” enables strap interchangeability. Right: The case comprises of 35 parts.

The case is made from Darkblast Grade 5 titanium, measuring 39 mm (width) * 41.7 mm (length) * 8.7 mm (thickness). The shape of the case is an asymmetric polygon featuring smooth edges and is “carved with CNC numeric control machinery.” The dial side features a sapphire crystal with multi-layer anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The caseback features a flat sapphire crystal. Water resistant is up to 10 ATM or approximately 100 metres.

The watch comes with a turquoise Velcro strap fitted with a Darkblast buckle. The strap features an iron core, thus providing both “flexibility and strength.”

How thin is the movement?

Image: Movement finishing includes bridges that are decorated with colimaçon, Côtes de Genève and perlage. The golden-coloured unidirectional automatic winding rotor features two layers of finishing: a sandblasted base with colimaçon, and a soleil brushed top with the brand’s “honeycomb” pattern. The movement is shock resistant to 5G, tested with a 5 axes robotic arm.

3.7 mm! It is powered by Calibre GCA2001, an ultra-thin Swiss automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, seconds with a stop-second function and date. It measures 25.6 mm (diameter), comprises 189 parts and 28 jewels, beats at a modern frequency of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and delivers a power reserve of 50 hours via a two-barrel system. The movement features an Incabloc anti-shock system, much needed for active sports.

What do we think?

Transforming the Baroque architecture-inspired Maestro case into a high-performance luxury sports watch is not an easy task. Yet it is one that Gerald Charles has done skilfully by combining the Darkblast Grade 5 titanium case with a turquoise dial with a matching Velcro strap, and an ultra-slim automatic movement. It meets the brand’s ErgonTeq® ergonomic standard.

While the Maestro GC Sport Tennis Turquoise is designed with tennis in mind, it is equally fashionable as a versatile everyday watch, maybe even a dress watch. For collectors looking to add something offbeat to their collections, whether they are into tennis or not, the Maestro GC Sport Tennis Turquoise is a compelling choice.
