Volkswagen has unveiled the all-electric ID.3 GTI as the performance variant of its compact electric hatchback. Built on the ID.3 Neo, the car gets a rear-mounted electric motor, plus suspension, steering, body style, and equipment designed specifically for GTI models. It delivers 322 BHP and 545 Nm of torque, with an announced driving range of up to 601 km.
What are the ID.3 GTI’s performance figures?
The ID.3 GTI gets a rear-mounted electric motor with 322 BHP and 545 Nm. Volkswagen says the car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.6 seconds, with its top speed electronically limited to 200 kmph.
Launch Control is available as standard and aims to help with power delivery during rapid acceleration. The vehicle also comes with an adaptive DCC sports suspension and a progressive steering setup.
GTI mode is offered alongside other drive modes like Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Individual. GTI mode recalibrates the electric motor, steering system, and adaptive suspension. This mode also enables Launch Control and alters the instrument cluster and the interior lighting. The speakers emit a fake engine noise in the background.
What are its battery and charging capabilities?
The ID.3 GTI uses a 79 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. According to Volkswagen, the range is around 601 km, but actual range will vary depending on driving conditions and the test procedure.
It offers DC fast charging at 183 kW. Volkswagen claims the battery can go from 10% to 80% in about 29 minutes.
The car also supports vehicle-to-load technology with an optional PowerSocket adaptor, allowing the vehicle’s battery to supply electricity to compatible external loads.
What differentiates the ID.3 GTI visually?
The GTI incorporates several exterior features. On the front end, IQ. Light LED matrix headlights are linked by a light strip that contains an illuminated Volkswagen logo. A red line above the strip reflects the grille pattern of the original Golf GTI.
On the front end, LED elements are arranged vertically, along with a black honeycomb-like front section and red detailing. The car’s standard 20-inch wheels are called the Wörthersee, named after the GTI meeting that used to take place in Austria.
High-gloss black is used for the exterior mirrors and side sills, while the roof, roof spoiler, and tailgate are body-coloured instead of black, like the GTI version of the previously mentioned ID.3 GTX.
Customers can choose from five exterior colours: Tornado Red, Moonstone Grey, Scale Silver, Grenadilla Black, and Glacier White. Tornado Red uses the LY3D colour code and was previously used on the Golf GTI.
What is the interior equipment?
The interior features the new design first seen in the ID.3 Neo. It features the Digital Cockpit and a 12.9-inch central touchscreen. Physical controls for the air conditioning system and hazard warning light are now located under the screen.
Exclusive GTI features:
– Sports seats with the Superclark pattern and red stitching;
– Red dashboard highlight;
– Sports steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock mark;
– Illuminated GTI button to turn on GTI-specific driving mode on the steering wheel.
Options include a panoramic sunroof, massage and memory capabilities for the front sports seats, a 480W Harman Kardon sound system, and an augmented reality head-up display. Also, the removable bicycle-carrier attachment kit is said to have a maximum drawbar towing capacity of 75 kg.
When is the ID.3 GTI release date?
Volkswagen intends to launch pre-orders for the ID.3 GTI in early 2027. Volkswagen has not released any price tags or market availability details yet.
