BMW India rolls out three‑model 7 Series lineup, starting at ₹1.95 crore

What has BMW launched?

BMW India has launched a refreshed iteration of its flagship 7 Series model range. The 7 Series range includes: the petrol BMW 740 M Sport, the long‑range electric BMW i7 50 xDrive M Sport, and the high‑performance electric BMW i7 M70 xDrive.

The i7 will now be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, making India the only country besides Germany to assemble the electric flagship. The i7 M70 xDrive will be sold as a CBU.

What powers the BMW 740 M Sport?

The BMW 740 M Sport uses a 3.0‑litre, six‑cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine. The engine develops 400 hp and 540 Nm of maximum torque, enabling a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

What does the i7 50 xDrive offer?

The i7 50 xDrive M Sport is the mainstream electric option. It uses a dual‑motor eDrive powertrain with xDrive all‑wheel drive, producing a combined 455 hp and 660 Nm. BMW claims 0–100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and a 210 km/h top speed.

The  BMW i7 50 xDrive incorporates a 112.5 kWh battery and delivers a WLTP‑certified range of up to 728 km. The battery charges through a 250 kW DC charger, which charges from 10–80 per cent in 28 minutes. A 22 kW AC charger can replenish the battery from 0–100 per cent in about six hours. 

How extreme is the i7 M70 xDrive?

The BMW i7 M70 xDrive is high performance flagshipof the 7 Series range -BMW calls it the most powerful 7 Series it has ever produced. The i7 M70 xDrive uses two electric motors which deliver 680 hp and 1,015 Nm in Sport mode and rises to 1,100 Nm when Launch Control or the Sport Boost function is activated.

These figures enable the i7 M70 xDrive to attain a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 250km/h. The higher‑output electric hardware is paired with updated battery technology, and BMW claims a WLTP range of 686 km.

Visually, the M70 is more assertive than the other variants. BMW gives it a unique front apron with larger air curtains and central air intake, a small lower spoiler lip, darkened grille illumination, smoke‑black crystal headlight elements, M exterior mirrors, extra M badging, a Black Sapphire rear spoiler, a distinctive full‑width‑style rear diffuser treatment and 21‑inch bi‑colour Jet Black M aerodynamic wheels.

As for its interior gets Carbon Fibre M trim with Silver Threads and a Piano Black centre console, reinforcing its performance‑oriented personality.

How does the design differ across variants?

All three 7 Series models wear the facelifted “face of BMW luxury class”: Iconic Glow kidney grille, Individual crystal headlights, larger matt finish BMW badge, flush door handles and new rear lights. M Sport models get M aerodynamics and 20‑inch wheels, while the i7 M70 xDrive adds 21‑inch M aero wheels and M‑specific carbon interior trim.

BMW has paid special attention to the cabin for its refreshed BMW 7 Series line-up; the cabin features include:

BMW has equipped the 7 Series sedans with a comprehensive list of safety and driving aids. The Standard aids include:

• Driving Assistant Plus (only available on he i7): active cruise with Stop&Go, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, blind‑spot monitoring
