What is the news?
Legendary racing car constructor Lola has launched two continuation versions of the T70: the track-focused T70S and the road-legal T70S GT. A limited production version of the Iconic T70 racecar prototype that defined the prototype category in the 1960s
Is this a replica, a restomod, or something else?
The best way to describe the new T70S cars is as continuation models. Lola says the project was developed using archive drawings to preserve the original design’s authenticity while benefiting from modern manufacturing and engineering precision.
The track-focused T70S is supplied with an FIA Historic Technical Passport, meaning the car matches FIA-approved period-correct historic racing specification, allowing the car to take part in the international historic motorsport events rather than being treated as just a track toy or collectors’ car.
Both Lola T70S and T70S GT’s entire bodywork is made up of sustainable material through its patent-pending Lola Natural Composite System, or LNCS. Lola claims the entire T70S bodywork is 100 per cent “natural” and petrochemical-free, using plant fibres, basalt fibres, and a plant-based resin system
What powers the T70S and T70S GT?
T70S
The T70S, a track-focused variant, uses a 5.0-litre small-block Chevrolet V8 that produces 530 bhp and 425 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent through a five-speed Hewland LG600 transaxle, preserving the car’s period-correct mechanical character. Lola claims the T70S can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 203 mph.
T70S GT
The T70S GT is a road-legal model, swapping the 5.0-litre V8 with a larger 6.2-litre Chevrolet V8 producing 500 bhp and 455 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission.
What forms the mechanical basis of the T70S?
The Lola T70S is underpinned by a lightweight aluminium monocoque chassis, with double wishbone suspension at both ends. Lola also specifies that the suspension includes ride-height-adjustable coilover dampers on both ends, a setup focused on tunability and mechanical precision.
What is the racing history behind the Lola T70?
The Original Lola T70S harbours a rich motorsport history, active during the 1960s, the T70 is one of the most revered prototype racers of its time. achieving success in critically acclaimed series, such as the Can-Am championship success in 1966 with John Surtees.
What are the production numbers, price, and availability?
The Lola T70S and T70S GT are limited to 16 cars in total, public pricing has not been officially announced, and the road-going T70S GT is confirmed as UK road-registered.
