BMW’s Vision CE: The Bold New Face Of Urban Motorcycling

BMW Motorrad has introduced the world to its bold new Vision CE concept, which BMW asserts is part of its long-term plan concerning its electric urban mobility, which began way back in 2014 in the form of the BMW concept C, now known as the CE range.

So far, the CE range has two active road-going models, the CE 04  and the CE 02. The CE 04 was launched in 2022 and, since then, has been leading its segment, and as for the CE 02, it’s a smaller alternative to the CE 04, which focuses on a more accessible urban mobility. One thing the  CE range carries is its quirky design philosophy that sets it apart from its competition, and one can also argue that the design adds a playful flavour to the otherwise lacklustre segment.

The vision CE carries the same quirky design philosophy as the road-going CE 04 and CE 02, but for the vision CE concept, BMW has dialled the quirk all the way up to eleven and then some. The  Vision CE looks like something off the sets of a sci-fi movie- with two metal centre tubes going across the frame, which BMW ironically calls a “cage”.

The “Cage” is at the centre of the Vision CE concept, as BMW claims the Vision CE is set to bring forth a revolution in the safety standards in the urban Mobility products, in other words, in the electric scooter market. The vision CE with the cage-like structure and a chair-like seat structure with a seatbelt harness enables the rider to forego the safety gear, such as the helmet or a protective suit, which BMW claims ensures a safe and emotional riding experience. Another highlight of the Vision CE is the self-balancing feature, which allows the vehicle to balance itself on its own while stationary without a need for any physical stabiliser to keep the vehicle from toppling.

Appearance-wise wise the Vision CE resembles quite a lot to the C1 concept from 25 years ago, when BMW had the same idea of solving the woes of urban mobility; a two-wheeled motorcycle encased in a protective shell, which BMW  also admits that Vision CE is a spiritual successor to the C1 concept. BMW is about to physically unveil the Vision CE for the world to witness at the 2025 IAA Mobility in Munich, Germany, from 9th September.
